It might be a lot easier to find loading data for cast in the 8 X 57. Then you can use the same powder charge for similar weight bullets in the 9.3. The pressure and velocity will be a little less in the larger caliber so you can probably work it up a bit. Another tack is to take jacketed data and reduce the charge 20% for cast. Reloading isn't rocket science.

There are a few shooters here with 9.3 x 57 rifles, they may jump on here in a day or so.

I have a 9.3 x 62, and use a 270 grain Mountain Molds design with great success. In this larger case, 22.0 grains of Alliant 2400 gives about 1700 FPS.

This is another cartridge where the old standard cast boolit/military caliber rifle load of 16.0 x 2400 might be a good point to jump off from. I suspect that increasing the charge 0.5 grains at a time will find you a "sweet spot" in short order. In my rifle, I began with 18.0 grains. This was accurate, and as I stair-stepped the loads upward, accuracy remained constant until the 22.0 grain level. Things fell apart a little at 23.0 grains, so I backed off--sighted in--and took the rig hunting. 3-shot groups ran 1.125" to 1.250" at 100 yards, which will do nicely for deer to 150 yards.

8x57 loads as mentioned would work as would 358 Winchester/35 Whelen STARTING loads, not the full bore max loadings. That'll get you started anyways.

If it's some oddball old rifle of questionable quality I would thingk 38-55 type loads would be a starting place. IIRC there's not a lot of shoulder on that cartridge and the bore is close.

Okay, before I jumped in here I made a call to Custom Cast Bullets and he has two available. A 225 gr flat nose and a 250 gr. both gaschecked style in .366" dia. For hunting loads I checked three of my old Lyman books and came up with data for the 9x57 that I am sure could be extrapolated for the 9.3X57. Try Lyman editions 40 thru 42. You didn't mention if he wanted to plink or slew great beasts. If it were mine I'd put the 225 gr. bullet over about 15-16 gr. of IMR-4227 and plink all day without cratering my steel chickens. The usual disclaimers about what you do is up to you apply. Custom Cast's info. is available on the internet shooting directory or PM me for his phone number.
