Shooters

I own a Remington .243 Win Model Seven.

I need to know which cast boolits that have worked for you.

I did a serch for suggestions but could not come up with any results.

Main use for this rifle is to carry with hounds,

Thanks

RCBS 95 SP, I get almost MOA results with it in a Rem 788 x 243, from 12.0 x 2400 to 15.0 x 2400.

I have a Stevens model 200 in 243, and this boolit shoots very good out of mine.

83.0 grain GC Lyman
and this is my load:

16.0 of H 4198
with a federal case
and W.L.R. winchester primer

Thanks Deputy Al

A few questions though

what does 12.0 x 2400 mean?

I assume 12 grains of ( 2400 powder), what brand is that?

Same for 15 grains of 2400?

Thanks

I used RCBS's and Saeco molds for my Browning Safari 243. I used WW alloy a bit of tin and dropped them in water from the mold. I used Rooster Red lube and sized them .244. I seated them out to touching and engraving the bullet at seating.
The best powder I found was RL-7. I've forgotten the charge.
I got very good results.

Sorry about that, AZ. That is "shorthand" for 12.0 to 15.0 grains of Alliant (formerly Hercules) 2400 powder. 2400 is commonly used in magnum revolver cartridges (jacketed and cast), 410 bore shotshells, and (last but not least) mid-range velocity cast boolit rifle loads. It's kind of an "old school fuel" for these applications, but I use a LOT of the stuff.

RCBS 95 grain bullet. 23.5 grains 4227. This load is funny to me in that the Lyman 44th edition listed 13.0 with a max of 18.0. This was copyright 1967. The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook third edition copyright 1980 lists a starting load of 19.3 and max of 24.5. I find it odd that the new starting load is over the old max load. Anyways I started at the low end and went up in .5 increments and all was so so. 23.5 was magic. 24.0 things had gone South. I did use a guys chronograph and he said it was accurate. His rounds and my other rounds all seemed to read as expected. I got a higher velocity than what the book had said. Should you try this and if you have chronie,I'd like to hear your results. This doesn't work worth a darn on deer.
