I threw together a new load for my 30-06 from what I had on hand for last months cast bullet rifle silhouette match. The load was the Saeco 165 grain bullet with 30 grains AA2495. The bullet fit the bore perfectly and I expected it would shoot and it did seem to shoot well from offhand. I missed a bunch of targets but it was cold and raining so I blame the weather! I kept five rounds to put on paper and did that yesterday. I had intended to test them at 100 yds. but it was very windy and I decided to move the target to 50 yards. As I went out to move the target the wind moderated but I went ahead and moved it anyway. I did get the five rounds off before the wind got vicious again.

The first three cut a cloverleaf. I got excited when I saw that and forgot what I was doing and the next two opened the group to .7". I think what I did was the first three I was holding the forend loosely and the last two I held the forend tightly. I caught myself doing it but I wasn't concentrating very well in the cold and wind. The wind was also picking up again and that may have contributed but I really think it was just poor bench technique. That load is a keeper!

Blame it on the wind! I have not attained a group that good jet but look forward to it some day!

Accurate doesn't list that powder in the 30'06. I'd be real interested in what your chronograph had to say, as I do have that mould.

And MAYBE a 1903A3 on it's way from CMP. I know the newly offered rifles have less than nice bores from shooting blanks for so many years, but we can always hope!:Fire:

I did not chrono it. Had the chrono set up for the 100 yd. target and I did not reposition it after I moved the target. My partner was freezing and in a hurry to go home.

This Saeco bullet shot good in my old 30-06 barrel too. I got a 1-1/4" 100 yd. group once with 25 grs. IMR4198 with the old barrel.

I have an AA guide from 1992 that lists 30-06 data with AA2495. With a 170 grain cast bullet in 30-06 they show 28.8 grs. for 1838 FPS and 32 grs. for 2042 FPS.

Good luck with the 03A3!

I'll bet that would be a good one to try with about 16-18 gr. Alliant 2400 too. I have the RCBS 165 gr. and that thing really shoots in the .30-06 with the 2400 load. Interested to see another good powder for the '06 and that weight boolit.

The Saeco shoots good in both 30-30's I have tried it in too. I have another 30-30 I need to try it in. My mold is a DC and I got it from a fellow who bought a 4-holer because he liked it so well. I have some 2400 but didn't have good results with it in something I tried it in. I ought to play with that some more too.
