I was gifted a Lee Pro 4-20 on Father's Day (my choice per the dialog on this forum). Just got a chance to use it for the first time today and casted 260 bullets for my 40 S&W. I was using the Lee 6-cavity micro groove mold for 175 grain bullets. My mix was wheel weights with some tin I added.

All I can say is S W E E T!

Didn't take long to get my technique ironed out and I cast the bullets in about an hour from start to finish. I didn't get 6 perfect bullets every time but I did quite a few times and it amazed me how fast the bullets were piling up. I would have cast a lot more but I was workig outside under the threat of a thunderstorm and didn't want to deal wth that kind of mess. It worked great and I will be casting a lot more. Time to lube with Liquid Alox and check out the new bullet sizing kit.

Now to find a bullet mold for my 45-70. I'm on a mission. :)

A cheap hot plate and thermometer to preheat the mould and more alloy to replenish the pot will help out a lot. Set it for about 300 deg for both the mould and ingots and any moisture that was on the ingots gets evaporated and allows the pot to heat up faster after a re-fill.

Sounds like good advice. I was laying the mold across the top of the pot to pre heat it. I noticed putting a fresh ingot in the pot created quite a commotion in the pot.

Sounds like a great start, might I suggest the 45/45/10 recipe rather than the straight mule snot. It dries quicker and isn't tacky, it will not gum up your seating die nearly as badly as the straight stuff.

Remember, if the boolits are brown you used too much, it is amazing how little is just right.

Thanks, I did a very light application with a Q-Tip. Seems to be just right.

45/45/10 what is the mix?

These get run through a Lee 401 sizer and lubed then loaded. They shoot great.

Heat those ingots before you put them in the pot, that may stop some of that "commotion" It just gets better from here!!!
