Figured out why we haven't heard from Bullshop for several days, the wind done blowed all the cold air out of Alaska so no one left alive there. It's blowing 40 miles an hour here according to the Weather Bureau. Forty degrees and 40 MPH wind, I make that Chill Factor Zero. Guy in Salt Lake City said the wind was picking up spray from the lake and it was so cold it was turning into snow. Actually might be more than 40 MPH here. It blew my windgauge away. So I put up a little Shooters windgauge and the dang wind sucked that little ball right out the top of the gauge. When I came back from the grocery store I dropped my keys and had to chase them 300 yards before they stuck in a 2 X 4. Now I suppose I'll have to listen to Wills tell me it blows so hard in Texas that they fly the Oklahoma flag cause all their dirt is in Texas. Or the reason they all wear cowboy boots is cause they have to fill them with concrete to keep from being blown into Mexico. Or CarpetMan has to tie bags of lead shot on his sheep to keep her from blowing away...

Not be voryink comrad hear am I. We have been studying Russian because its blowing so hard here the whole north American plate is sliding accross the bearing straight and we are about to collide with Russia.
Its so cold we expect it to break into several small continents. I got my BS flag on a pole and am fixin to claim one for myself.
Anyone interested in applying for citisenship contact The Bull Shop.
There will be jobs available but king and queen are taken. Secretary of the interior is open though. Bring long underwear!

We had a strong wind back on Monday...and it's been picking up all week.
It's got to where feeding stock is pretty tricky. I've got to make sure there are no cows downwind of me. Otherwise, I might kill one when I throw a bale off the truck.
I hope 'BJ' Clinton doesn't get wind of Carpetman's ewe. I understand he's quite fond of females that are ready to blow away.

Wind at 40mph at 40 degrees F = 27 deg windchill. Better nail your hat to your head.

REALLY windy here most of the day, then it shut down about 20 minutes ago. Dunno how fast it was going, but there were a few house cats and small dogs being held against my north side chain link fence, about 3' off the ground. It was none too pleasant to be outside, for sure.

I see 100 mph gusts forecast for the front range, over on the Blackfoot Rez. A couple weeks ago, there were gusts of 157 mph, up on Marias Pass.
Who needs hurricanes?

We get our share of wind, too. It's called "the Washoe Zephyr." My wife drives her little Saturn to work in Carson City through Washoe Valley, unless it snows, then she repos my 4WD Dodge PU. Nearly every afternoon campers and trailers are prohibited. Several big rigs wound up on their sides in the last couple of weeks. Luckily we live in the valley just north of Washoe Valley, and it's not quite that windy. We did have to re-roof last fall because of the wind (and a lousy job of installing the old roof.) We're about ten miles east of Slide Mountain, a near 10,000 foot peak that gets the 100+ mph winds every storm. As soon as my Navy surplus anchor chain order comes in I'll build a new windgauge. Last one used 3" links from an old diesel submarine, but it blew away. the new order is for 5" links from a destroyer.

We have had 80 mph gusts earlier this year. I heard rumors of a good kokanee bite this year over to Helena and spent the morning fishing. I caught perch as fast as you could rebait but no salmon. I have an older commercial ice shed with plastic fabric over tubing on a 6'x3' sled base. It is 6' tall. My weight and gear wasn't enough to keep it on the slick ice with no snow on it. The last time the wind caught it I went 100 yards away from my holes before I could get it stopped. Not a fun ride, I decided to shut it down then. Gianni.

We had fishable ice the weekend of Thanksgiving, another of the joys of living near the continental divide. Even in the lowlands near Helena there is 14" of ice. Gianni.

A couple of years ago I was in California and on one particular day the wind was blowing so hard I saw ducks flying backwards.

Nighthunter, that brings back a memory from about 20 years ago. Myself and two others, were flying into Schaefer Airstrip, in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, to meet up with a pack string heading for Dolly Varden Creek. We had two saddles, half dozen bags of horse pellets, rifles, and other gear packed into this little single engine plane.
As we tried to cross the Swan divide, into the South Fork country, we came into a serious headwind.
I was looking out the window, and we were actually moving backwards, and the terrain avoidance beeper was going crazy. The pilot finally peeled us back, before we lost anymore elevation.
We flew back to Kalispell, and transferred all of our gear into a dual engine plane, and went back in. Wind was still strong, which I appreciated as we were landing on a half foot of slush, on a strip surrounded by high mountains, and tall trees. As I watched the plane head back out, I was very grateful I would be on horseback for the next couple weeks, and wouldn't have to fly out of that canyon. Don is a pretty good mountain pilot.

Looks to me like the first liar in this thread didn't have a chance......Destroyer anchor chain, indeed! I just drive a piece of 1/2" rebar into the ground, sticking up about a foot; when it bends 90 degrees, March is here.
