Can good .222 brass be easily made from mil-surp .223 brass? Details please from those who have embarked on this venture.

Thanks,
MJ

Yes.
Normally I clean the brass, then lube and size in a .223 die. Then I will wipe off most of the lube in the neck area.
I remove the decapping pin and expander button from my .222 Remington FL die, and neck the cases down. At this point I will trim to length and then re-size again with the expander button. Generally there has never been a need to turn the case necks, but it might vary depending on your .222. At this point I will anneal the case necks.
The cases I have made have lasted for many loads.

Is there any ring created where the neck/shoulder junction used to be on the .223 case?

Thanks,
MJ

If you can get past the music, this is a good video on reforming 5.56 blanks into .222 Remington: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfkgL_M-zBw

Have not done any in a number of years, however am still shooting cast in a few that I probably did from mil 223 about 20 years ago. I did inside neck ream them.

I pretty much formed .222 cases from .223s as Al sway posts. Sometimes there was a visability to where the neck/shoulder junction was but it went away when the cases were polished brite in a tumbler. I also outside neck turned very slightly to true up the necks.

I've made a hundred or so. I was concerned about thick necks, but my 222 chamber is generous, and the slightly thicker necks are just a bonus- better bore centering and longer case life.

I'd make more if I didn't already have so much .222 brass (and so little time).
