Does anyone have a good receipe for bread pudding like my mother used to make? The pudding at Hometown Buffets is very similar.

I just so happen to have my grandmas recipe.
1).6 slices of toasted bread-buttered.
2).6 eggs
3).4 cups of milk
4).1 cup of suger
5).2 tea spoons of vanilla
6).dash of salt
7).nutmeg
8).cinnamon
nutmeg and cinnamon go on top.

Cook in double boiler in the oven. [inside a bigger bowl filled w/water] so it don`t get scortched.
At 350 degrees for 45min-1Hr. ummm.....good!

Now this sounds like the pudding my mother made, except she cooked the other stuff in a double boiler on top of the stove, then poured it over the bread in a baking dish, and beat up a meringue to top the pudding and lightly browned it in the oven. And there were raisins in it.

I forgot to mention the rasins; they are optional. some people don`t like rasins. I love them. Sometimes I add them to the mix. I have to go and check the bread situation in the house; all this talk has made me hungry.

I'm very fortunate here in that both Smith's and Super WalMart have in-house bakeries and sell absolutely delicious French Bread for a dollar a loaf.

use day old croissants. You will have a really smooth bread in the pudding. And as stated earlier don't forget the raisins, actually good with craisins also.
