I'm going to try this again with the hopes of getting some more traffic.

I need a little help identifying this “mould” for a friend. A fella I know (Russell) has had this thing for 65 years, but knows nothing about it. He received it when he was a child from a playmate (thought maybe he traded for it with a hand full of marbles or some such).

This is a one piece instrument (only a few inches long). It does not open like a scissors. The sprue plate is long gone, but there is what looks like the remnants of the sprue plate screw at the top of the mould. The bullet that was just recently cast by Russell is slightly out of round and measures .408” x .410” and has no lube groove. He did not give me a length or weight of the projectile.

In a book I have, "Round Ball to Rimfire - A History of Civil War Small Arms Ammunition Part I" it shows a drawing of a very similar bullet and states. "No. 2 is the American Pickett bullet, without a chamber to adapt it for quicker loading. When solid it carries more accurately." The book does not state the caliber, but I would think it would have been larger than .41.

Any Ideas?
