ok guys im looking into casting for 223. i thought about going with j bullets. but i dont like the idea of always having to buy them. so now i guess i need to figure out what kind of alloy to run. the lyman 48 said everything should be lynotype. now does this have to be 100 percent or could you use lets say a 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 ratio of ww. im just looking to the future becuase im working on getting everything together for my 223 stuff

Entirely a function of twist and your velocity. Lino is brittle, but not brittle enough to blow up glancing boolits off of water. I would use WW as a primary for sure, and then add just enough lino to cast good. Then heat treating is a must to make that antimony go into a fragle state. ... felix

sorry it will be a 1 to 9 twist out of a savage 12 series. most likely a 24 to 26 inch barrel

I forgot what the mix was I used last but it seems to me it was wheel weights or a little softer . I was casting at about eight hundred degrees and they filled out pretty good .
Been loading with about five grains of Universal Clays , haven't shot many but they seem to work ok .

i was thinking about 3 to 1 or so ratio on the lino. this would give me alot to work with and at 55 grain a peice that would be alot of them

I have a savage like you so just look up my posts to read of my experiences.

As for alloy, I just use WW and water drop the bullets from the mould.

Let me know if you need any further help.
