Hi,

I have read on this forum that once the saw dust breaks down into carbon it make a great flux, I have left over activated carbon from filtering spirits that i can use on the surface in my pot.

Has anyone had any experience using activated carbon as flux?

Any form of carbon will generally wok fine. Some of us prefer using the simple dry wood stick as it serves as both a stirrer and scraper, and it definitely gets the carbon under the surface which is something most other fluxes don't do at all without a lot of extra effort.

Saw dust here and only saw dust. I used very finely ground charcoal once
The kind you would find in a capsule for human consumption. what a mess, never again.
I have been using saw dust for two casting seasons, my pot has never been cleaner, I get no crud in my bullets and no flare up.
