I am currently using Hornady's One Shot for their Ultarsonic (no longer using that machine) and have used Super Flush radiator cleaner. Hav elooked for "sour salt" in ethinic foods section of Kroger and WalMart, no luck. Have looked in drug stores, no luck. Where are you finding commercially avaialable inexpensive citric acid?

McCormick makes it in the little4-oz. shakers like all their spices come in, should be in the canning section of a REAL grocery store, used for canning tomatoes.

bulk foods stores , ours locale are run by Amish or Mennonite families

if you find a place like this ask , they may not have it but they tell me all the time they can order anything i want

then again my gun store told me that and I find exceptions all the time , not their fault i am just not normal, and their suppliers don't always have the less ordered things like bullet molds , i must not be normal if i make my own bullets, right.

+1 what I use, works great especially on badly tarnished brass. I just soak mine for 30 min. to an hour but I'm sure the use of an Ultrasonic machine would be a bonus.

I posted this earlier under "Lem-Shine Alternative", this looks like a more appropriate thread - so here it is again:
For small quantities of Citric Acid a handy source and availability is Walmart. The "Great Value" brand of unsweetened Lemonade Drink Mix is 98% Citric Acid, costs $0.10 per .25 oz. package that makes 2 Quarts of Lemonade. Might be good for 1 quart or 1 pint of Case Cleaner. A little dish washing detergent might be added to improve it. Kool Aid brand Lemonade mix is "Similar" and is available for $0.20 per package.

I have not tried this as a Case Cleaner yet. I will try to "get to it" and try it Thursday or Friday. I will report on the results, Safeshot

http://www.qcsupply.com/540923-citric-acid-410-gm.html I think the stuff you get in the little cans for canning has silicon dioxide in it, just a little abrasive to add to the polish.

Online is best, at this place it's 10 lbs for $21.50 + shipping:
http://summitcraftoh.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=5

One pound bags online run around $5 + shipping.

The wally world drink packets are cheap, and no shipping,
but if you get a pound worth (64 packets) it comes to $6.40.

Don't know what Lemi-shine costs.

You guys are great! Felix, when I look at the McCormick's display its like my vision goes all kattywumpus and I can see teh forest, but no trees. Drives me nuts with all of those similar bottles and tiny printed varieties. Then again, I am as far sighted as a ground hog. I get stuff from a soap, honey bee, and such supply all the time so I will check them out and look of lemmie shine or such. I have enough on hand for some time.

Regarding the ultrasonic cleaner, I got the one first introduced bty Hornady. I used it several times and found it to be pretty much useless. Just soaking iin the cleaning solution worked as well as bothering with all of those short buzzing cycles. I gave it away, kept the citric acid solution. The acid in a Thumbler's Tumbler model B gits'r done!

My man is a professional cleaner (no not the mob kind --- the kind the cleans businesses and such) or at least that is the feild he is working in right now

He got me some cleaning stuff that is called "Citric Orange Power Degreaser" or something along those lines (don't have it in my hand right now) --- it is an industrial strength concentrate cleaner that is suppost to be like 100% safe and non-toxic and all natural ingrediants cleaner intended mainly for commercial kitchens --- the active ingrediants are citric acid and a couple other natural acids and oils in an extremely high concentration --- it comes in a big gallon jug and it only takes like a teaspoon of the stuff added to water to make a full spray bottle of the stuff that takes all kinds of crud off stuff real easy

That stuff would probably do yo pretty well if you can find it --- its industrial so you will have to go to a janitor supply store it wont be in just a regular store

Health food stores. They may call it ascorbic acid, like vitamin C.
I think the two are similar but different compounds. Is sour salt the same thing??

There are several folks selling citric acid on Ebay, so I got mine from one of them. Cost about $9.00/lb. with the shipping but at least I GOT some! When you realize how little you need for good results the cost becomes somewhat immaterial.

Didn't know about the Lemi Shine....I'll have to try that one too.

While comparing eBay sales to find the best deal, I ran across 'other products' containing citric acid that are packaged for 'other uses' ... imagine that.
The stuff is good for cleaning out dishwashing machines, and removing mineral deposits from pots used for boiling.

So, I changed my 'goal' amount and bought five pounds for eighteen bucks, delivered. It should come in handy for Missus CM, too.

Dangit, I just got some online for about $2.30/lb! Oh well.

Shiloh, ascorbic acid is different, don't think it will work for brass
(as I remember from reading on CB).
"Sour salt" is an old nickname for citric acid. Kosher, I think.

IIRC, that was what I found also for the best price on the net, with shipping, it was $3.30 per/lb on 10lb lots.
Then I came across this local source that was kind enough, to give it to me for his wholesale price, when I told him what we using it for. I could get it cheaper yet, if I bought a 1000lbs. But I'm not in it for marketing on the net, and don't need to be sitting on that kind of inventory for what little demand is here.
But still, the small lot price shipped, either 10-12lbs (maybe more) in a Med. FRB or 19-20lbs, in a Lrg. FRB, gets it out at $2.80 - $3.10 lb. cost

As MC said, it has many other uses also. The CA I got is also food grade, (not all is), so I keep some in a salt shaker. I like it on fresh steamed green veggies, and on fish. It also works good in marinades or as a meat tenderizer, as it breaks down protein like MSG does, but without the health issues that MSG seems to have.

I was going to mention any Rural King or Big "R" or Farm Fleet store, but Ricks post makes buying the 4 lbs more economically sensible, than going to the store and buying a small itty bitty bottle for $3-5.
Good find Rick on citric acid for that price.

Home Depot "Dishwasher Magic". $6 for 2. Used it the other day to clean brass. Just soaked in hot water with a squirt of it. Agitate and rinse. Came very clean.
