Been doing pistol stuff for a long time. New to the bottleneck rifle scene. Problem is starting bullet (Lee 160 rn in 30/30) into the case without shaving the LLA or lead itself off the bullet. Have a new Lee Deluxe die set that has no provision for slightly belling the case mouth. As it is it's too tight. Die set includes full length resizer, neck resizer, bullet seating, and Lee factory crimp die. Nothing for case mouth belling. With jacketed I guess there would be no problem, but with cast I don't think it's going to work. Thanks for any help you can give. Tom

The easiest way out of this is to get the Lee case mouth expander die.

Here's a link: http://www.leeprecisioncatalog.com/cart/detail.cfm.cfm?item=90798&source=catalog

If you want to look at it, go to page 25 in their new catalog (online). You can get a good look at it. The good thing about this die is that is is almost as universal as you can get.

Except that I'd call it a Case Mouth Flare Tool. Or is it Flair Tool? Anyway, it's not really an expander plug.

:coffee: ---Tom there is also a rifle (m) die that is adjustable---Fits your press and will work for many 30 cal. like .308---30-30----303----762x54---7.5x55 and so forth----You can adjust it to flair the mouth as you want---Boolit will go in easy with out shaving if set properly-----I use that boolit in the 30-30---Mag

Are we talking about the lee universal expander. I got it and it works good. Also Tomf52 did you camfer the inside of your brass? That helps.

The quick and dirty down home way. Get out your Toolman pliers, stick the nose of the pliers in the case mouth, and give a twist. You will soon learn how much pressure you need. Works fine.

I prefer the Lyman "M" die for cast bullets in rifle cases.

I've tried the Lyman M dies and the RCBS neck expander dies. I prefer the Lyman too.

My bad on the language for the tool. Sorry but that is what they call it. And yup, it is just a case mouth flaring tool. I'm just the messenger....:Fire: the messenger!!!

Thank you all for the help. Have located a Lyman "M" die and ordered it.
