Well I have the new MiHec "Ruger Only" mold that I want to load for my Ruger Redhawk. The question I have is how strong is my revolver?

Please now, don't roll your eyes, I am not looking to hot-rod anything. But all the Ruger-Only loads always mention Blackhawks and don't really specifically address Redhawks. I have a Smith model 25 and the Ruger is a tank in comparison, clearly a rugged gun, and one of my absolute favorites. But is it strong enough for the heavier Ruger-Only loads? Is it as strong as a Blackhawk? I have looked around a lot and really can't see it spelled out. Can anyone help?

I cast a few hundred boolits from the new mold, (and if there is anyone left alive out there that has not used one of MiHec's molds you are missing out) so now I want to load them up to around 1000 fps or so, but load data is spotty at best for boolits this heavy. 2400 is my powder of choice and I have found on Handloads.com a 325 gr load using 2400 that tops out at 19 grains for 1200 fps. I was planning to start at 14 grains and go up shooting across my chronograph.

Thanks!

Read the owner manual or contact Ruger directly. Tell them what you're doing and what the concern is.

i have a super blackhawk, the super redhawk is by far the stronger gun, tho both guns can take the ruger loads.

a recent handloader magazine article explained the difference between the 2 and listed some good loads.

I've shot 300 grainers over 23 grains of 2400 in mine without incident. Also kilt my only black bear with that combo at 100 yards.
My buddy thought he'd try that load in his Smith 29, he had to go home and beat the empties out of the cylinder with a dowel:bigsmyl2:

I would not give the Red a steady diet of these loads though, it will loosen up over time

In my opinion redhawk you is one best built hand guns on the planet. Ruger stands behind every firearm they make. If you manage to break one you obey did something VERY wrong. Blackhawk is made to be loaded one at a time, where as the redhawk will allow you to roll out the cylinder to unload and reload all at once. That's the main difference between the two. Any load you see for the blackhawk you can use for the redhawk.

Well shot a few yesterday, over a mag primer and 15 grains of 2400. Chrono'd at an average of 950 FPS and not as much whallop as I expected. Shot really well actually. It seemed faster than I expected but don't ask me why. I will try 16 grains next time!:bigsmyl2:

The RH loves H110. It is super strong but the one spring for the trigger and hammer bothers me.
The 325 gr boolit has no trouble getting to 1300 to 1350 fps and 21 gr of H110 with a STANDARD primer will be close.
That heavy boolit will not be accurate at 950 fps.
Start at 19 gr of H110 and work up for accuracy.
2400 can SPIKE if too much is used. It is a good powder, just work slow with it. You might not get to the accuracy point with 2400.
DUMP THE MAG PRIMER WITH 2400 and even H110.

That's pretty much what I have been seeing a lot of, H110 seems to be the darling of the heavier loads. I may have to break down and get some after I spend some more time with 2400. Thanks guys!
