I hope Mike figured out how to remove that hammer spur extender by now.
Some of the more mechanically capable members here have modified the lifter/feed part on the 1894s to get it to allow longer cartridges, but they can only improve it by 0.10" to 0.15" which is certainly better than it was but still too short to allow use of the more desireable rounds like .357 Rem Max and .445 Supermagnum. These rounds are a bit over 2 inches long. I wonder if it's possible to fit the lifter from a 336 Marlin (.30-30) and modify it to feed .357 Max rounds in an 1894?

The cartridge lifter from a 336 isn't even close. You'd have to make some sort of custom piece.

The bigger problem is that loaded Max won't fit through the ejection port.

The 360 Dan Wesson might be a viable option.

I have always wanted a lever gun in 357 Max and IIRC there is a company in Texas that will convert a Marlin for it. But I don't know what model is used.

I've heard a lot of good things about Mic's work on Marlins:

The action of an 1894 is too short to feed a case that's .325" longer (445 & 357 Maximum) You might squeeze the 360 Dan Wesson in there, it's only .125" longer.

I wanted to convert my 1894SS in .44 Magnum to 445 SuperMag but ended up taking .100" off the back of the carrier to feed 300 grain RCBS swc's and 285 grain Lyman 429640's. That's plenty of power with a case full of H110 or W296.

Otherwise, I'll use my new 444 Marlin to beat myself up with, but if Marlin made a levergun in 357 Maximum or 445 SuperMag I would buy them.

Paco Kelley on Leverguns.com mentioned something about a Winchester 94 .357 Maximum conversion and I believe he said it has 35 Remington ballistics.
