We shot my Ruger 77 in 22-250 for the first time today since it came back from the factory after getting a new barrel put on it. 17gr of 4759 behind a .225 sized NOE 22-55 grainer lubed with Carnauba Red and Gator Checked. Pleasantly surprised we were to say the least.

And I bought that mold to use in the 222's!

How many shots and what was the range? Looks like you are onto something there! Good shooting!

Thats three shots at 56 yards, from the kitchen window using one sand bag. To dam hot to be shooting outside from the bench.

I have been using a Rem 700 .22-250 Rem Varmintmaster with an RCBS 55 SP-GC bullet sized to .225". I load long so they just touch the lands, when loading, using 8.0 grains of Unique. I was routinely popping 12~16 ounce cans at 250 yards with it as well as 3.5" steel swinger plates with it, much to my delight.

Now to get my 700 Rem .223 Rem to do as well...

I think I'm going to try the BRP 45 grainer in my 223. It just don't like the 60 grainers. Load em long the bolt wont close, load em short and they don't shoot. So I'll try the BRP 45's

That is one good load, and good shooting too. What is the contour, and model of that Ruger. Heavy barrel, or standard sporter? The 22-250 seems like a very versitile, and effective round, and I've been thinking more, and more about getting one lately. I have a .223 bolt gun, and that is really fine for around here............ but. When I was in High School, my mentor loaned me a 22-243 model 70 Winchester he had. Same idea, but a little more powder capacity. That gun sure impressed me, and my friends, and was really my introduction to any "long" (as far as that goes in NH) shooting. I've never had anything like that as an adult though. Shooting around here is pretty limited, but still fun..

M77 , standard barrel, free floated. I had the barrel changed as many years ago a mud wasp built a mud nest in the barrel. Thankfully I checked the barrel before shooting. I found a 4" plug of mud in the bore. Hmmm, that would have hurt! Anyway the mud wasp must have had really muddy feet as the barrel was totally pitted beyond what lapping would remove, so a new barrel was needed. The only jacketed bullets the new barrel has had through it is what Ruger tested it with.

Shouldn't that be, "Good deal, buy all a round!"?

Just wondering ... wouldn't that same combination at least potentially work in my Remington 788 in .223? Enlighten me regarding the NOE 22-55 GC boolit. I think this may be something I need! 'Tuck

No burbs here. My wife grew up in town. After we got married she could hardly believe you can actually pee outside...

I find my 22-250's shoot as well or better than 22 Hornets and 222 class rifles with cast bullets

Yes, that happens, even when you include a bench gun. I turned a few 22-250 case necks down to where there is little or no friction when inserting a boolit, the boolit being held by the lube only. I used VV110, a large granule single based 2400 at 15 grains with the Fed 150 primer and the Lyman 646 boolit. A three shot group at 80 or so yards was about 0.200 or less by eyeball. Pure magic for a standard chambered Rem 700 at 14 twist. I never shot the load again because of its impractical nature in the field. I am stating this so you can possibly replicate the load during a bench shootin' match where money is involved. ... felix

there is/was a run of the noe molds in the vendor or group buy section a bit ago.
good molds, follow the directions.
you guy's are getting me leaning in the 22-250 direction for summer and forgetting about the 8x57 that needs attention.
gonna try for some higher velocities though.....see if i can beat the 223.
