i picked up a '71 win94 in .30wcf to use as a truck gun.

mainly because the price was right. i would have preferred a 336, but they are more popular(and pricier).

i have found the cartridge to be a blast to shoot, from 100gr-170gr cast boolits.

its a great time hitting the 3" spinner at 50yds and 4" spinner at 100yds.

its also cheap to reload.

im surprised how much i like shooting it.

I have a '55 Model 94 and enjoy shooting it, too. It's probably as close as I'll ever get to owning a Winchester lever action that starts with an 18.

It can also be loaded down so low with a .310 round ball and tiny charge of Bullseye that you can shoot it in your back yard or basement. Almost silent and accurate to about 25 yards. Check the internet for more info under light loads fot the 30/30.

Mine was made in 64, one of the first new models off the line. What is there not to love 'bout them?

i prefer the solid receiver of the 336, as well as the lockup of the lever.

The 30WCF (30-30) in a M94 Carbine was my 1st CF rifle and cartridge. I got it for my 14th BD and still have it. I've also had several other M94s along the way and currently also have a nice M94AE Black Shadow that i like very much. Even managed a couple Marlins but didn't keep them long, they just had no appeal for me with M94s available. However, now that my old eyes can't use the issue sights on the Carbines I find the Marlins capability for scope use appealing.

The 30WCF is a grand cast bullet cartridge and my experiments with LeveRevolution powder in the M94AE are increasing the potential while staying well within SAAMI psi for the 30-30 cartridge.

What's not to love?

I would be quite content to fool with nothing but .30/30's for cast bullet shooting for the rest of my life. It's a grand caliber in traditional lever guns, Savage 1899's, bolt guns (Win. M54 and Rem 788, and Savage 340) and single shots. It works in any platform that'll hold it.

I have Marlin and Winny levers. I prefer the Marlin myself. I am not dis'in Winchester at all but prefer Marlins action. The 30-30 is one of my favorite.

+1! I have a 1966 336 straight-stock and a Savage 219 break-action, both have pitted bores and shoot lights out all day with cast boolits, with loadings from popgun gallery loads to full-house, 2200fps meatgetters. With a 4x Weaver my 336 is all the rifle I can forsee ever really needing, even though I have a stable of bolt guns.

I'm starting to really "jones" for a .35 though.....

.30wcf, who loves it?

Me, I also have a 94 of about 1970 vintage.

A '50s vintage 336 that was my dad's and a '60s vintage 36G both in 30WCF. They've been on the back burner lately since I got the 32-20's and the 25-20, though. I haven't really explored the light load options, they just duplicate the 32-20.

I am a convert to the 30-30 to say the least. The only real improvement would be making it a 32, and that is because the twist of the standard 94 suits it perfectly. Make the 30-30 a 14 twist, and then look out for true love. ... felix

I've two wins in 30wcf and two marlins in the same caliber. One of the wins is the canadian cenntenial with 20" octagon bbl. That has to be my favorite one. Put a lyman 57 rear and 17 front on it. I call it my 30-30 match rifle. Also have a singleshot made from a ruger #3 action and
the largest bbl that would fit. I might have to cut down the bbl on this one as its very muzzle heavy. I like the 30wcf as its a good cast bullet cartridge and bought a bunch of once fired brass when richbug was selling it. Frank

I stumbled across a pre-64 Winchester M64 Deluxe a few years ago, and promptly snapped it up. It's truly a sweet old gun, in the perfect cast boolit cartridge!

Perfect timing on this topic. Just a couple of days ago I decided to deer hunt this year with my M94 Win carbine 30-30 using the 180-FP RCBS @ 1950 fps.

Junior,
Arn't you concerned that little cartridge is not big enough to shoot a deer three miles away? All kidding aside the .30-30 would suit most peoples needs in the lower 48. As far as cast boolits go it is ideal in size.

I have owned both Winchester and Marlin and they both work well. My current .30-30 is a Marlin 336 and I will probably keep this one.

.30-30 is one of the all time great classic cartridges. It's always been one of my favorites. I've always liked lever guns too. 336 or 94, you can't go wrong with either of them. Trying to choose between them is like trying to choose between hamburgers & hot dogs.

What's not to like on the "thuty-thuty"? I've shot factory as well as cast and loaded my own and with iron sights it shoots as good as I can. Mine's a 1948 model with lots of "character".
