I'm not sure what 45-70 you're looking at but I use a .458. A trapdoor (original) would take a larger one, but not newer rifles that I've used.

Get the biggest size you can (.459" IIRC). Than use a dowel and emery paper to open it a .001".
Wrap the 220 emery around the dowel and add a little oil then put it in the die and roll it back and forth on your thigh for a little while.
Check for size.
Repeat till almost perfect.
Finish with 330/440 grit.

The extra .001" gap in the insert will not matter.

Yep, Buckshot ++

Just rec'd a .460 push through die and a Lyman type die in .461 from Buckshot a couple months back.. Good work.

I have the two dies at the recommendation of Bruce - BRP molds - as he recommended I use the push through die for sizing and then go to the slightly larger sizer/luber die for lubing.

Using this on a 45/70 boolit, .462/465gr w/ G.C.

Mold is first class as are the dies.

Keep em coming!

+1 with Buckshots push thru sizer. He made one for me in .462 for my GG with good results. This in conjuntion with
Bruce's BRP .462 - 465 GC mold also.....Don't have any experience with other CB makers,
but these two were the cast meow for me....in my gun....

I take it back... I do have one of Ranch Dogs 350 grain mold, that was a closed out at Lee. Was much smaller in diameter (for my gun) so I do not shoot it much (though it was reasonable accurate - will need to enlarge the mold a bit, again for my gun). But I do like the nose shape/profile, simliar to BRP's
