Soon my computer is going to die and I need something to print out and read so I won't loose any time learning about casting. My charger cord is shot and one is on the way but I need something to read till it gets here. I'm new to casting and wonder if anyone knows about anything I can download and print before this thing dies. By the way I'm Justin from Oklahoma and I shoot 9MM .40 .38 .357 for now and want to start casting 9mm .38 and .357 first.

Have you read this one (http://www.lasc.us/Fryxell_Book_Contents.htm) yet? From Ingot to Target: A Cast Bullet Guide for Handgunners ©

Excellent suggestion. I'm about a quarter of the way into it, a good read so far...Ray

I emailed the wife a link so she can print that for me with "toner" I'm looking for something a little more liquid gold friendly. Maybe 50 pages or less to read tonight.

I understand your situation, and not to downplay Glen's very generous excellent work, but have you considered Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook? Besides all the casting information and references, there is the indispensible cast boolit load information.

Do the above a chapter at a time, and get the book that was suggested (Lyman)

May be a good idea to start with the 38, It's a good Cal. to get started with.

Can Glens new book be downloaded onto one of those new computer books. I don't have one yet but it would be great to have all the good loading books an manualls in one of those readers.

There is a copy of Ideal #38 in CastPics, in PDF form.

+1 for starting with the .38 - then the .357 - a year later, the 9. The 9 can be a bear...

And +1 for all of the above.

That's a good question. Does anyone know if he is willing to publish it on the Amazon Kindle? He can even do it for a free or a one penny download if he wants. My son will be publishing his first novel on Kindle in July. I'll post here when he does.

My wife printed the Ingot to target at lunch and I started to read it today. 175 pages should keep me busy! I was wondering if the Lyman book was any good? I see it mentioned above so I guess it was worth mentioning ? I load already and have a few books but the casting info is limited at best.

Why would you say the 9MM is such a bear?

The 9 mms are tricky due to a combination of factors. Bore dimensions are frequently well over accepted standards (up to .358 has been reported on here), the cases can have one of the biggest weight spreads in unsorted brass due to all of the different manufacturers and date spreads, a fast twist is common (like 1 in 10") which doesn't help any, and required operating pressures tend to be much higher than many of the more 'cast friendly' rounds. It can be made to shoot quite well but you're going to work for it...

Well I'm sure to find out first hand. So far the first thing I've been doing is trying to gather up the tools of the trade. I think that will be the biggest nastiest bear of them all. I'm broke and I need a bunch of stuff! I been to all the thrift shops in my area for a pot for smelting and have found nothing. I have about 80#s of range lead though! A laughable amount to most of you guys I'm sure but my back screams at the thought of it. They were all picked up one at a time! I load with a Dillon 550b now and love it. If I was rich I would still load my own, no doubt about it! I figured I could shoot more and have more fun if I load my own and it carried me right here to casting my own bullets. I might have a problem with all this shooting fun, I can't learn enough reload enough and soon cast enough. Seems no one around here, Sallisaw OK that is, casts or I can't find them anyway. I have no one to show me the ropes.

The only barrel I have to shoot lead with is a Lone wolf 9MM conversion barrel. LOL I will have lots of fun starting with so many things against me. LOL

Change of plans. I'm selling the G22 .40 to 9mm lonewolf conversion barrel and getting a KKM , Wilson , or Barsto barrel and need to get a 180gr mold so I can cast .401 bullets for .40 and 10mm. Who is the guy for gang molds to talk to he was making brass molds?

For a little levity--I couldn't resist it.

Just go back and read all my old posts.
You will kill a little time anyway.
I get this way sometimes Eh.

The guy making brass molds is one of our vendor sponsors Mihec of MP Molds. here is a link to his website:
http://www.mp-molds.com/index.php?pr=Molds

He frequently is the vendor on group buys in our Group Buy forum. A quick check shows a 6cavity aluminum 147 gr. 9 mm mold in the Group Buy section.

Great molds I have 6 or 8 of his.
