Anybody shooting Trail Boss in 38 special? If so, how is it working out?

I shoot a lot of 38 special with cast boolits, weights from 105 to 158 grains. I normally use Clays, which is great for cleanliness and delivers good accuracy, but the amount of powder in the case is very low, and tends to be a bit position sensitive with the lighter boolits. Was thinking of trying Trail Boss as an alternative.

Try the same amount of grain weight. Clays is faster burning, so the same weight should be what the doctor ordered. ... felix

I just tried 4.2 grains under a 158 rnfp, and it shot great.I'll back off a bit next time as it is the top end load, and the little snubby don't need top end for paper punching.
next time I'll take ALL fo the pieces of the chrony and let ya know how they did fps wise. :(

Thanks, guys. What does the case fill look like with these loads?

I use 4gr Red Dot in my plinker loads. Think they're around 700-850 in 6" K38, but, nothing for sure other than guess.

Fills the case about half full. It's a nice pleasant load to shoot by the hundreds. My little girl friend has burned a full 3# coffee can in a session several times. Keeps me loading.

I use 4.2 gr with 158 LSWC & 158 plated round noses. Great results. case is about 2/3 full if I remember correctly.

4.2 grains for 38 special is a good load, magnum pistol or rifle primers are recommended because of the low pressures. I use 4.8 trail boss under 158 swc in .357 and get good accuracy.I load 4.6 in 148 wc and get ragged one hole groups in .357 mag.
