I'm surprised more folks haven't joined in on this group buy. This bullet is a great one, very versatile in both 38 Special and 357 Magnum.

Come on folks, you know you want one (or two).

I'm hoping we get enough people signed up for both the aluminum and brass versions. I prefer brass, but if it comes down to it, I'll go with aluminum if means getting enough people to complete the GB.

One-5 cavity, PB, drill for probe

Tom, the RG moulds are a 2 and 4 cavity hollow point mould where all cavitys are hp'd with captive pins. They will make a mess of hp'd boolits in a hurry.

here is a pic that Sweede posted for one of his other moulds that shows the rg2&4.

If there's still time to subscribe.......I would like an aluminum 4-cavity mould, no hollow point or gas check modifications. My Lyman 2-banger version of this classic has about had it, after 30+ years, and I'd like to sample Al's work after all the great reviews his tools have received. My first Group Buy participation, too--though I've bought a couple "leftovers" and "over-runs".

It is a good boolit design that has done well for me in 38 Special and more recently in a tight-sized Colt Police Positive in 38 S&W. I don't recall ever running it in 357 Magnum, though. #358156 and #358430 got the nod for the heavier caliber, and still do.

Both HP and non HP show 150 grains - is that correct?
There is no overall length on the second picture for HP - I "assume" it's the same overall size because it's basically the same mold configured to accept the pins.

If we ARE doing brass, then when? Do I need to get my money in?

Yeah, it's kinda like waiting for Santa Claus to arrive, isn't it?! :kidding:

Since we have a little time on our hands...

This will be my first brass mold. Is there any particular break-in procedure or special tricks that I should use? I have mostly used iron before. I tried aluminum and had such poor luck with them that I won't buy them again unless there is absolutely no other alternative.

So, what should I know about brass?

As one that was instrumental in pushing for the brass option on this, sorry about that. What makes the setup for brass vs aluminum so different?

SwedeNelson
06-29-2012, 12:16 PM
H.Callahan

It uses a different form tool.
So all the offsets are different.
Feeds and speed are different.
The basic set up is the same (as on all buys)
it just needs to be proofed and every thing reset.

I think a better question is what is the same.

Not a problem
They are coming along.

Hey Skimmerhead,
Wait untill you cast with your brass mould; you're gonna love it! I managed to drop about 450 saturday morning before the oppressive heat set in, as cast weights averaged 150.4 gr. (plain base mould) and .360" dia's with my alloy.
It looks like my 2-banger Lyman mould will be getting it's retirement papers.

Thanks again Swede for running this mould, and in brass. Another fine mould!

My brass mold showed up this morning. All I can say is ... WOW!!. Damn thing looks so good, I almost don't want to cast with it. It seriously looks like something that should be in a glass display case for viewing -- and with infrared beams guarding it. It is, seriously, the best looking mold I've ever seen. The cavities appear to be perfect. I can not wait to try it out (but am going to have to, until at least the weekend).

Thanks Swede, for a wonderful job. It was worth every penny and I haven't even cast with it yet! (BTW Swede, the thermometer arrived along with the mold. Thanks again!

BTW, as this is my first brass mold, do the instructions supplied apply to it as well? I want to get it broken in correctly and keep it in good shape!
