Hey Guys,
Are these collectable or not? Do they still make this type of cap. I have very little knowledge on Muzzleloading, so all your help will be appreciated.

Anything can be collectable, but here's a lot of 5K that sold for $30.

I believe Richland Arms went toes up a long time ago.

Was that a good price or is that what they sell for these days. I have 2000 or 20 capsules.

Just a guess but these #11's are most likly made by Fiochi[sp?] and imported by Richland after Alcan closed up shop in the 70's. If they were stored right they should still be good, not sure on value but not imho collectable.

How would you go about to see if they are still good? I opened one box and looked inside all 10 capsule's. A little tarnish on some of them.

Put one on a rock and smack it with a hammer, that will tell ya if they are still good.
Might wanna wear eye protection.

I think I just paid around thirty dollars for 1K of CCI, so if these were still good it was a good price. I wouldn't pay anything for them unless I was reasonably sure they were good.

Also, keep in mind that if you ship caps they are considered hazmat and rules and fees apply.

Geraldo...Hasmat..would that be shipped, just ORM-D and would that apply with gas checks. DANG! those caps are loud.

Hi Wildwood
These caps were sold under several names. Navy and Dixy for two. They are powerfull and fit maybe a little too tight on no11 nipples. The big thing is they are very corrosive. The worst. If you use them clean Very well.

+1 on above comment they have potassium chlorate in them and are VERY corrosive even if using non corrosive powder gun will have to be cleaned with plenty of hot water.

Another note on these caps you may notice that there is no foil or paper on priming compound sometimes that pellet comes off and even with cap removed you can fire gun in that case!!!

I still have some around and do use them on occasion if they stay dry they will last forever.

N.H. got the critical part about the corrosiveness of the prime. The cups were also very hard. Make sure they fit the nipples you use them on. BvT

I had a hunting buddy give me half a tin of caps they did not go BANG when they were Suppose to. I don't use caps they are very old for hunting deer. Pinching paper is another story.

I'm not going to mess with them, I'm just going to sell them. When I ship, all I have to do is put ORM-D on the package "right"?

Absolutely true. They have very thick cups so there is no margin for error when seating on the nipple.

Also, yes to the post about them being marketed under several brand names.... about the time of the muzzleloader reproduction explosion beginning about the 60-80s. And
yes, they tend to be a fairly hot cap.

And no, there is no collectible value to 19th century technology, made in Italy in the 20th-21st century, packaged in an embossed plastic snap lid container :)

I just talked with UPS and they said, that if I wanted to ship these caps. I would have to have a Hazmat Contract with them, and take a class on hazmat. The fee for shipping is $25.00 and no more shipping to Alaska & Hawaii. So I'll just hang-on to these caps.

Thanks for all the information.

Sell them locally. Pistol shooters usually clean shortly after shooting so a good cleaning negates the corrosive aspects. The # 10s usually fit colt clone nipples ok. But give a potential buyed a couple to try for fit and sell them 2 bucks cheaper than wally. VOILA ! gone.
