Does anyone have an approximate of what a bucket of wheel weights will weigh?

I work in an acct office and just talked to one of our clients...he does tires, said if i wanted a bucket of ww to stop by.

i want to give him some cash...moreless just to make sure that i continue to get them, more than what he'd get at the scrap yard....and i'd like to start buying them from him.

also called the scrap yard, they'll pay me .08/lb for them, or let me buy them for .30/lb

Snowman--What does a bucket of ww's weigh? You aint gonna believe this. It is directly proportional to the size of the bucket. Bigger buckets tend to weigh more than smaller buckets.

Snowman---I think the figure I have heard is about 115 pounds for a 5 gallon bucket and will render around 100 pounds. Yes get Calculus involved if he has a set of scales.

It depends on the bucket. Steel or plastic? Shape of the bucket? Is it straight or flared? What does the bucket weigh empty. Weigh the bucket of WW and subtract the weight of the bucket. You may even wait until the ingots are cast to get the actual weight in lead. Salvage yards work for profit. You can bet .08-10 cents per pound is a good price. They deliver it to the salvage yard. You are picking it up. You are saving them a trip to the salvage yard.

...........offer to provide a case of beer or a few cases of sodas for the crew........work out a fee per bucket. That works for me. I pay a case of Harpoon Ale and a 12 pack of Moxie per 2 buckets. Works out to about 12.50 per 5 gal bucket. I supply the empty bucket. Filled to the top, I can't lift it. 3/4 full is about 80-100 lbs. I get about 1 bucket every 8 weeks.

Now it's not just calculus.

We have to get non-linear algebra and differential equations involved.

Snowman, I don't like to get money involved if I can help it! A coiple cases of soda or beer for the guys depending on their age . Or a box of Quality donuts!
Trying to figure the weight of a bucket of WW is futile! you have big ones and little ones. A full bucket of big WW's is LIGHTER than a full bucket of little ones! That's because of more air than WW. a cubic foot of lead is about 700 pounds. I get a few buckets a year and they are NOT full. They weigh from 50# to about 80#,over that ,I can't get them into OR out of my truck.

Well, I will offer the donut, soda or beer route....but as it is, someone is already taking them to the scrap yard with all their other metal....so they are already getting paid for it. I'm just hoping to help them lug them around :)

If they wont sell them to me for .10 / lb, my other option is .30/lb from the SCRAPYARD.

So I'd rather give them cash if I have to. If they are picky, I can always take digital scale in.

All I know is ... it takes 2 broad shoulder men to lift a 5 gallon bucket up to the tailgate of my truck!

I use a different scale: one 5 gal bucket of ww = one herniated disc. So I've been trying to think of a way to install a lift or jack onto my handtruck. Or can you buy one like that.

its more about what a bucket full will yield, not what you start with.


a lot of steel clips in a bucket full..

i get about 100-110 lbs of lead per full bucket.....

I've heard of guys selling the clips after smelting the lead to the recycler.

This mirrors my experience with a bathroom scale.

The variability is based on things like wheelweight size, loose or settled in the bucket and what you define as "full". They top out at around 150lbs: no trash, brim full and well settled.

I have been buying them for $10/bucket regularly. I have 3 tire stores I check every other month. The bucket size varies slightly, but I generally get 100 lbs of clean WW ingots per bucket. I try to pay cash and I don't need a receipt.

trash will greatly effect the weight .weights only will go 150 lbs.plan on 80% by weight in ingots,maybe as mutch as 120 lb.
