Anyone using the 250 gr PB lee cast in a .375/38-55 ?

I want to load some up for my T/C and wanted some feedback if any.

Thanks.

This is all I have on it, but you'll at least have the measurements:

I did think about it for my 375 H&H but went a different route with a BRP 378-275 GC mold

Ranch Dog Outdoors makes a nice boolit for that caliber. Its a 235 grain gascheck sized at .379"

I make/stock it. Check my site for more details or call/email

I have one, but it throws at .382
Won't chamber in my Krazy Horse Winchester
I need lee to make me sizer down to 379. My mold makes pretty boolits. 38-55 is great. Have been using the beartooth bullets and it really likes those.

I shoot both the 250 lee and the 235 RD in my 375H&H's. Both shoot well with Trail boss loads, and are great for offhand practice or over cross sticks. The 235 RD w/Red Canuba lube at .379 at chrono'ed vols of about 1800 shoot into an inch and a half at 50yds from standing cross sticks. Would make a whale of a good deer load I think.

What powder and amt. for that load above ?

Probably should have bought a .379 instead of the .377 will have to see.

Your .375, Big Bore '94 ?

Thanks.

That makes me smile when someone suggests a 375 H&H for a deer rifle, but with the correct lighter loading it actually makes a lot of sense, I've looked at reduced loads for the H&H and they fall right in for that use.

Absolutely makes it a dual purpose rifle if you can stand explaining it to others every time you take it deer hunting.;-)

I think the 375 H&H is a great cartridge and can be loaded to shoot small, medium, large and large dangerous game. I'm settle in very well with mine.

I'm thinking my 9.3x62 falls into that category pretty well also.
no dangerous game is on my list, a Bull Moose during the rut most definitely is!

and a rutting bull can be pretty dangerous in and of itself.

I use the Lee 250 gr. sized to .380. My mold throughs a .381. I am shooting it in a Marlin Cowboy that comes with a .380 groove barrel. I have no leading problems at all and it shoots great. This rifle was rebuilt by Marlin from a 35 remington that I sent to them.

Jerry, Yes it is a Big Bore. It is actually a .375 Winchester but I load it down to 38-55 or that light rifle makes me very whiney. Try some 4895 (IMR or H) and I'll bet you can find a load you will like.

i'd go for the 379 sizer too.
i use it in both my marlin and win 375's.
i also use the longer ,win,38-55 brass in them.
and a g/c seemed to help immensly when attempting accuracy.

Another caliber I find interesting, I think Ruger may a no.1 Tropical ? in that cal. for awhile.

That's one of the great things about Ruger, the limited production runs in unusual calibers.

Why they ditched the .480 is unclear, probably should have made it Linebaugh capable.

Bevel base boolits drive some shooters nuts. I have good luck with them up to just over 2000 fps when I use BPI Original filler. That filler just loves bevel bases and acts like a good gas check when used with bevel base boolits to let you get to velocities where the bevel base alone won't usually go accurately.

I also shoot that boolit in a .375 big bore toned down a bit and in a 1885 high wall. Both are winchesters so they don't have oversized bores. I bought a .379 sizer from ranch dog, but the .378 sizer from lee works a little better.

When I started to do some research, namely the sticky here (from ingot to target) now I know why bevels are that not that great to deal with, but as stated the problems lie more in the bhn hardness, sizing and lube rather than the bullet design.
I was casting way too hard (no obturation) with too hard a lube (no lubrication)
Thanks for the input.

Thanks,

10.0gr of Unique seems to shoot pretty good in my TC 375 with this boolit.

don't blame the hard lube.
maybe the ingredients but not the hardness, viscosity and makeup [interaction] are a key to driving cast boolits hard.
