I'm shooting 405g boolits in this new Win 1885. Seems everything I read or folks I talk to suggest a 500g boolit for better accuracy out to 500 yds.

I'm looking for suggestions for a mold that folks have experienced working well with this barrel.

What say you?

With my browning 1885 bpcr in 45/70 i first tried Saeco # 017 350 gr cast bullet, but could not get the accuracy i was looking for . i found out that my barrels twist rate was for heavery bullets so i bought a Saeco #020 540 gr mould and you should shoot groups with the heaver bullet at 200 yards as there not fully stablized at 100 yards so accuracy will suffer .
After sortting things out i ended up with a 2 1/2 inch 25 shot composit group at 200 yards [1- 5 shot and 2- 10 shot groups . with a scope

A few pieces of info............

My rifle has a 1-18" twist

Here is a chamber cast. Zero lead it appears. Just about any boolit will be well into the rifling..............

.457 just ahead of the case mouth...........and .457 about 1.5" forward of this area.

Roy, I have a Spagetti Hiwall with a Green Mountain barrel, 1/18 twist. I got a mould from Steve Brookes (Creedmore design). He cut the mould with the bottom two driving bands at .460, the next band at .450, then the rest and the nose at .449. This lets me seat the boolit with only the bottom two driving bands in the case. You can fit more than 80 grains of FFg under it in a Winchester case. When the barrel is fouled, I have to keep the fouling soft and push the round into the chamber, but it shoots well to 1000yards.

If I called Steve Brooks would he know what mold I'm talking about? Or do you have a mold number for that mold.

Thanks
