Ok, finally got the local tire shop to sell me 275 lbs of wheel weights. Now I have to melt the suckers down. In years past, I did it in a 2 quart sauce pan that was dedicated to this. This is a little more than I want to do that way. I have a 2 gallon blue enamel pot that doesn't get used.

Any reason not to use it?

Yeah, weight. Any idea how much 2 gallons of melted lead weighs!? Maybe a petcock welded close to the bottom would work for that, but still, even 1/2 a pot full would be daunting.

Planning on buying a stainless slotted spoon and soup ladle. My guess would be about 45lbs for 2 gallons.

I melted and cast into ingots some 37% tin/63% lead in a large "chicken frying skillet". I think it was 4 quart size. Filled to appx. 1 inch from the top when melted.
The ingots weighed 50#.

I think you need a rethink.:-?

I bet you are talking about porcelain pot? The kind that chip? If so I would think the heat involved would be hard on it. As to the size, it needs adequate support.
