Anyone using the SAECO #939 144 gr SWC in 38 Super ? My old load using 540WW/HS6 might do better with a different powder so I'm asking around.

I shot the Lee 141 gr TC boolit in my 38 Super, with enough Unique to curl your hair. (Barsto Barrel).

Shot well for me, hope you have the same good luck.

I started out loading the Lee 90318 140-SWC in my Super using Unique and when I tried to make IPSC major, I ended up with a bunch of bulged cases.

I switched to BlueDot and was able to make major with the Magma 38S-160-RNBB in a standard Colt barrel. No bulges. I had a fully supported barrel installed in my pistol and used the Saeco #930 38S-154-SWCBB designed by Wilson (actually drops 158 grains with my alloy) and got over a 180PF and no pressure signs with BD.

I also have the Saeco #928 38S-145-RNBB and the #929 38S-145-SWCBB and I use them in my Tanfoglio 38 Super EAA Witness pistols. The #928 and #929 drops at 145 grains with the same alloy that drops 158 from the #930.

I would suggest you switch to BlueDot or Accurate #7. Both powders have worked for me in IPSC competition.

Lyman reloading manuals give BlueDot loads for the Lyman #358311 38-158-RNPB. This was the boolit used by many IPSC shooters when the 38 Super first became popular.

Start low and work your loads up, the BlueDot loads will make you happy.

Thanks for the comments. I do use Bluedot and AA-7 in several different loads. AA-7 wasn't any better with the #939 than the 540 load but never tried Unique or Bluedot. The #939 bullet takes up so much space within the case I haven't figured out where to start with BD or Unique. The body seated within the case is .4" leaving only .325" powder space. I'm not trying to make major PF, been there and done that years ago. Now I want an accurate load and just wanted some experienced imput. Thanks again.
