I might have the opportunity to buy mixed range brass (everything up to 30-06 and more) and all kinds of pistol brass from an indoor range at $1.50 per pound. I wonder - what kind of general mix does one get with that kind of stuff? Is it possible to buy it, sort it, and sell off the brass and make some money and maybe have kind of a nice little hobby that might make a few bucks?
I would use the Dillon sorter system to go through it all and put it into 5 gal buckets, then weigh it out. I am not interested in counting the brass.
Just thinking...............

If the range had alot of handgun shooters then you may be doing alright since many people shoot mixed head stamps. 45 auto being one of those rounds that many use mixed brass. Additionally if you know the brass to be once fired then even better, some police and firearm safety classes require new ammunition so this would be good range brass with it being once fired. Rifle cases, reloaders tend to be more specific to headstamps and brass batches along with wanting to know the exact times it's been fired.

I'm interested, I think you could make some dough with it. here's something Freakshow10mm posted on another site:

380 Auto- 8.5 lbs
9mm-9 lbs
40 S&W/357 Sig-10 lbs.
38 SPL-10 lbs.
357 Mag-12 lbs.
10mm-11 lbs.
45 ACP-12.5 lbs.

That's the number of pounds per 1000pcs of brass."
