Back by popular demand! Original thread below:

Ordering directions, and how the process works.
To make sure everyone's on the same page, below is an outline of how this group buy will work.
This mold will be a brass .45 200 grain 4 cavity mold using an identical cherry used in his last .45 200g run which was very popular. This mold has the base similar to the H&G68 and a Miha designed ogive which is very popular with 1911 shooters. I personally like using this bullet in my XD's because it simply feeds without any problems. This is the same bullet design Miha started out with here in his single cavity, then his 2 cavity Cramer molds.
The mold will be available in two sizes, .452" OR .454". You will also have the choice of a solid bullet mold OR a Cramer style hollow point mold. The hollow point mold can also create solid bullets by turning the HP pins around.
The Hollow point mold will come with round cavity pins. 5 sided cavity HP pins are available for an additional cost. (Most people opt for the extra pins) Cavity size and Solid/HP can not be mixed within a mold. You're getting either a HP or Solid mold in one size per mold. The molds will be offered in either .452" or .454" and should weigh around 200g in HP and slightly more in solid. Standard Lee 6 cavity handles will work with this mold. (Miha also has some higher quality handles available on his site)
1. Choose which size mold(s) you want. The options are either .452" or .454"
2. Choose whether you want a Hollow Point or Solid bullet style. Prices and shipping are below.
"SOLID" = NO Pins - $95 + $15 freight = $110.00 total
"Hollowpoint" - $130 + $20 freight = $150.00
Hollowpoint mold with set of 5 sided pins as well, +$16 extra for a total of $166.00
If you purchase 2 molds Miha will ship both for $25.00
3. Post on this forum thread your mold choice stating HP or SOLID and size, and your contact email address. Please "code" your email address so it can't be gleaned from the site by bots. Example below.
"triggerhappy at domain dot com"
4. I will add you to the list in post #1 and keep a running total just for giggles.
5. When Miha is within a couple of weeks of shipping I will close this thread. Do not get left out, once it's closed the raw materials will be ordered by Miha and we will not be able to slip you in. MAKE SURE YOU OCCASIONALLY KEEP AN EYE ON THIS THREAD.
6. Miha will use the list in post #1 of this thread as his orders list. Please make sure it's correct and what you want. Once the molds are completed, boxed and and ready to ship Miha will email you using the email addresses on this post to send you a payment request through Paypal.
(Do not gripe about Paypal here. I agree it's lousy and has it's problems, but it's what usually works. Remember Miha is in Slovenia.) Pay via Paypal or another agreed upon method between you and Miha. The Paypal requests go out in batches, so be patient, you'll get yours. The system can only handle so many at one time.
7. When this group buy closes depends on how many people get signed up. The more interest the sooner these will get built.
8. Once your mold has been funded Miha will ship it. Delivery within the US usually takes a couple of weeks. Sometimes a little more, sometimes less.
That about sums it up. If you have any questions please post on this thread or send me a PM.
If you have ordering information please only post it on this thread. Do not send me ordering information in a PM. I prefer to keep the record on this thread so there are no questions.
Thanks!

cbrick, it's in the title, and I just added it in the body so it's a little more clear. Sorry about that, easy to overlook. This is a 4 cavity mold. The pics I posted are from the older 2 cavity version because I don't have pics of the 4 cavity version yet. Should be able to post some soon.

last question as a double check, is it true that one can flip the pins for a solid rn fp?
Triggerhappy
04-25-2011, 08:51 AM
mebe007, As far as I know, nothing has changed in the design of this mold to preclude you from flipping the pins for solids. I'll be able to verify that when I get the new mold from the last order. I'll specifically try it and post come pics. I know it worked on the 2 cavity version and this should be a 4 cavity copy of that.

last question and i know there can be no exacts given here. but generally in group buys how long does it take for this thread to turn into molds at the door? i apologize for this question i am just new around here.
Triggerhappy
04-25-2011, 09:14 AM
mebe007, No worries, happy to try to answer that question. It all depends on how fast we get a group of buyers signed up and how quick we can close this buy as well as what else he's working on.
The last .45-200 mold I opened the group buy thread on November 7th, 2010. We got great response and Miha closed the buy on 1-31-2011 with 112 molds ordered, so he could order the materials. 3-8-2011 Miha posted that we was about to receive the mold blocks. I expect we'll get our bills for the molds this week or next and receive the molds a week or two after that.
It takes time, these are custom molds of the highest quality. Miha also had several other very large orders to get out like the H&G68. It's all relative to the number of people we get signed up and what else is on the machine. Wish I could give you an exact date, but at least this gives you some idea.

no its all good. basically i was looking at the time frame for hoarding the money in my slush fund. gotta make sure i have my wiggle room. so now i know if i can get that 452460 mold to hold me over with some more casting fun
so it would be a couple months minimum to delivery essentially
Triggerhappy
04-25-2011, 09:35 AM
I think it's safe to say a few months to completion. At least.
I'm in the same boat, have to juggle funds when the molds get close to shipping.

Tony,
I'll post a photo of the solid once I get the first version of the mold, should be soon. I have never cast the solids because I prefer HP's. The solid looks just like the HP, with the front flattened off, it's not pointy.
You're down, welcome.

04-25-2011, 08:56 PM
TH,
I bought the Cramer HP version the last time you ran this buy. I'm expecting delivery in the next few weeks. It sounds like the solid will be a RF profile. It should cast faster than reversing the pins in the Cramer mould.

Now what diameter? I can't slug it cos I don't have it - yet. I'd rather not size excessivley. What do you think?
Triggerhappy
04-26-2011, 08:12 AM
firewalkerd1, I can put a note on the list if you want. the round pins are the standard, the 5 sided pins are an extra cost. We'll see what Miha can do. I wouldn't expect it to be a problem. The round pins are nice too, I use mine all the time.
TH

04-26-2011, 08:14 AM
Tony,
The solid mold will certainly cast faster than the HP version with flipped pins. It's still a nice option to have that ability. Especially for people that can't buy two molds.
I like shooting the HP version because it saves a little lead each time, (almost 10%) and I can push them a little faster which works for what I'm doing.

rollmyown, I can't answer that for you. Most of the Miha .45 molds I have are .452" and they work great, especially in 1911's. If you don't want to size a great deal go with the .452", should work great for most alloys.

What would the diameter be of the dropped .452" and the .454" bullets?
Triggerhappy
04-26-2011, 01:39 PM
That would be .452" and .454". Of course that depends on what alloy you're using and hot hot you're casting. The target is the actual size of the mold, but there are variables involved. Some people shoot as dropped, most size to true the bullet and provide more size consistency.

I have been using CO WW and sizing to .452" using LEE molds and I noticed that most buyers have ordered the .452" mold. Would I be better to order the .454" if I am going to size to .452"? As you can tell I am new to casting and a little confused.
Triggerhappy

No problem. I quite often cast air cooled ww and use a .452" mold, then size to .452" which doesn't take much. Most users will want .452" so that's probably the best place to start.
Unfortunately there's no way i can tell you which size to get.

Swede,
There's no way to know at this point how long this buy will stay open. In all honesty I would guess a couple of months. It depends on how many people sign up and what Miha is working on. If he gets slow this may move faster. The faster we get people signed up the faster producing the mold will be.
Wish I had a set date for you, but it doesn't work that way with these custom molds.

blaser, the molds are done and should get billed next week after packaging this weekend. The only possible way to change your order is to contact Miha directly. It's possible he made some extras and you could exchange sizes. Changing the list at this point won't make a difference.

454 with all the pins please. My Miha H&G68 is perfect in my 1911's but has issues in my p220 and xd. Guess I need this one too...between this and the H&G503 i'm going to be going bankrupt!

So I have something to do this coming fall/winter... I'll bite on this as my first-ever mold. Those boolits on page 1 just look too dang nice, especially the 5-sided HP (I'm not sure I've ever seen something like that!).
I'm new, and so worry that I'll buy the wrong thing :) So unless someone tells me this 'definitely' won't work in a 3" 1911 Kimber, then I am in. I haven't slugged my barrel but from reading around, it sounds like I should be safe getting the .452, so will try that.

This bullet will work great in your 3" Kimber, I use it in a 3" Para Ordinance Carry12 for concealed carry. Very accurate and expands great if you use soft alloys. The penta pin is kinda nice, makes them look kinda cool. I think either type of cavity expands well.

Another quick will it feed question.
I just picked up my first 1911 (a Rock Island Armory) this weekend, which is my only .45. I have a couple of 2-cav Mihec molds already, so I was instantly interested in this one when I saw this GB. However, the manual for my gun states that the barrel ramp is cut to feed RN ammo. I'm wondering if anyone has tried these in a RIA before, and if there are any feeding issues?
Also, is it known yet when this buy will be closing?
Thanks.
Triggerhappy
05-10-2011, 04:50 PM
These are about as round as it gets. Should work fine. What the manual is saying is the 1911 is designed to function with hardball, which has a round nose profile.
No one knows when the buy will close.

I speak for myself, and I am sure many others, in saying that you can part a man from his money more painlessly than almost anyone else that does not have long blonde hair. Seriously though, from the page one post to this point has been the clearest and cleanest GB that I have been in. Would that the whole world was as well run.
Congratulations and if you're ever in this neck of the woods, I'll buy you a cold one.
Thanks to Miha as well. I have two of his moulds already and they are both a work of art and a joy to cast with. If anybody is still unclear on what a service he provides, try to imagine if he had never wandered in here and perfected those great Cramer moulds and agreed to sell them to all of us liquid Pb addicts. Same offer Miha. If you ever take a wrong turn on the way to the shop and end up in Alaska, stop by and let me shake your hand and buy you one Slovenian style!

trigger, could you change mine from .454 to .452
Triggerhappy
05-15-2011, 08:11 PM
gcf, the molds are normalized to drop right at .452", but there are a LOT of variables, the two main ones being mold / lead temp & alloy used. It depends on what you're doing. All molds are the same, if you cast hot the bullets will be a different size than if you cast cooler and slower. Same goes for the alloy, some alloys shrink more than others. For most casters the mold will drop very close to .452", may not be exact for you, depending on what and how you cast.
If you're worried about it being too small get the larger .454" mold. I use the .452" and size it to .452 and it works great for me.

gcf, you're on the list and good to go.
As for a pot on a budget, look for a Lee pot and a dipper. It's not the best solution for this type of mold but it would get you casting for the least $$. Also start hitting your local tire shops for wheel weights.
If you can afford a little more money look at the Lyman bottom pour pots, they work pretty good with this type of mold.

I thought Miha said that his moulds will cast slightly over the listed size so the boolits can be sized down to to the stated size easily? I would take that to mean the mould will drop at .453 for the .452 version and .455 for the .454 version. Am I wrong?

My apologies, I've been away for a couple of days doing some Search & Rescue training.
MikeS, Yes you can get handles if you want. I believe they're $23 plus $7 shipping. If you want handles I can put you down for them, but you can also order them direct anytime from Miha's site. Shipping can't be combined. I don't own any of his handles, yet, but I understand they're really nice and much stronger than the Lee handles.
As for size, it all depends on alloy and temp. They should cast slightly oversize allowing you to size and lube easily, but the oversize is hard to say since everyone uses a different alloy and different casting techniques. If you're worried about the mold cavity not being large enough, perhaps go with the larger size.

This mold uses the Plain Base similar to the H&G68. It's very popular and works well. I think this is by far the most popular mold ever sold through the group buy.

DrB, hotwheelz, Roger & davidaker you're all good to go. Sorry it took me so long to get you on the list, I was away at a 3-gun match all weekend. Shot this bullet in a tactical .45.
Roger, you have a couple of options for handles. You can order them direct from Miha's site online. Or I can add you on this list for a set of handles too, Miha will just bill you for them when he bills for the mold, or you can get ahold of a set of Lee 6 cavity handles which work great with these molds. The Miha handles are far superior and will last you longer. Let me know if you want handles added to your order.
Welcome to the site guys!

Hello TH,
I have a question as far as size to order.
I've never cast, but know that I want to run boolits thru sizing die. Want a finished dia of .452. So do I want to order the .452 or should I change to the .454 so the resizer die will shave some off the boolit?
Sorry for being such a pain on this.
Thanks for everything,
Roger

I posted this in the closed buy thread, but thought I would put it here too. I have been casting and shooting the boolits from my 452 mold and thought I would show a recovered slug. The 452 mold casts at exactly that with my wheel weights I have been running them through my lee sizer just to get the lube set right, but there are very few that show any sign of having been through the the sizer. This recovered boolit was about 6 inches into the soft, wet dirt behind my target. Round nose bullets from the same spot showed very little evidence of having been shot, just bore marks etc. I could probably clean them up and shoot them again, Not so much this hollow point.

Roger, For most people the ,452" works great and allows you to size to .452". However, the dropped size of bullets from a mold depend on the alloy used and mold/alloy temp when casting. If you're worried about it go with the larger size and size them down a couple thousandths. There is plenty of lube groove to size them down if you want.

That's kinda what I was thinking with alloy type and shrinking. I think I'll feel more comfortable getting the .454. If you can change my order to reflect that I would appreciate it.
Still doing a lot of reading, never cast before. LOl

Could you please modify my order to be a .454 instead of .452. Thank you!
I'm sorry; I'm still learning and reading (I haven't actually cast any boolits yet), and I probably should be going with a .454 + sizer as well. I will be shooting these out of a 1911 and a Ruger Blackhawk. What do you guys think? Sorry again...

After much deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that I will not be able to afford the origional GB 45-200 mold run that I have waited for so long. I would like to offer my mold to the next in line and request being put on the second "re-run" waiting list. I will send what e-mails are necessary to Miha to tell him of the change or Triggerhappy can make the swap himself since he is honcho.

So please dis-regard previous messages. Thanks. Raymond

johnfl, No idea, depends on a lot of things but mostly Miha's schedule. He'll fit it in when he can. I wouldn't expect it to take too long considering the speed at which people have been signing up. The last time I ran this buy we had about 120 molds on the order. He waited to build them until two other similar buys were ready then he built all three at the same time. This is a side business of his so it has a lot to do with his schedule and when he can fit it in.
Please be patient, we'll get it done as soon as we can.
