The best place for a thermometer? Kinda depends on if you're the doctor or the patient...

I have no idea, having never owned one of those gizmos. I just turn up the heat until the mold and bullets come out the way I want. I assume that is what you would do with a thermometer also. I have always figured that the number on the thermometer were not near as important as the bullets falling from the mold, sharp edge and well filled out.

I just ordered a tel tru model. Of course they will not ship to me in Canada, but If I go through their Canadian distributor, they add 5 bux, and shazzzam! Package away, for the princely sum of $40.Shipped direct from Tel Tru to me. Make sense? I thought not. It's Canada. We pay more for EVERYTHING.

Frankly, a thermometer is a rarely used or needed tool.

NOE has them Mine is great . I can cast without one but like to know what temp cast best for a given alloy in my pot........

The problem with some of them, at least for me, you have to watch the level in the pot as the sensitivity wanes as you get around 2 inches from bottom. Once you're down to casting your final 50-100 or there about and don't want to add any more of a particular ally, they won't give you the correct temperature as the sensitivity is about 2 inches up the stem.

I got mine from the Antimony Man several years ago. I only use it when cleaning up WW. Helps avoid melting the zinc weights.
