Hey all im only 16 and I live on the border by the sea in Texas. I am very interested in reloading and casting but I'm just starting out now I am trying to collect material to start casting and I have read about wheelweights but is there another type of scrap metal that can me used?

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, there are a lot of materials around that can be used to make an alloy for casting. Read the stickies on this forum for a while and you'll learn a lot of ways to scrounge lead.

Plumbers often are pulling out old lead pipe, and they used to wrap some large telephone
cable in lead sheathing. Some roof flashing is lead. Wheelweights is one of the best
alloys to use since it has antimony and tin in it already. The other alloys are often near
pure lead, usually too soft for most boolits, but perfect for muzzle loaders. You can cut
wheelwts with about and equal amount of pure lead and still have a pretty decent alloy,
but pure lead will need at minimum some tin added, and tin can be expensive and hard
to find as scrap.

Welcome and good luck.

Welcome. I am fairly new too, but stick around here and read alot. You will learn alot. Also I learned quite a bit from the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbooks, both 3rd and 4th editions. A worthy investment in my opinion. Also a good standard reloading manual is good to have. I like the Speer manual and the Sierra manuals personally. Just take your time and research first before just jumping in.
