How many of you own a Buckeye 32-20?? Or a new Ruger 327 Federal??

This buy is for a Miha 4 cavity brass cramer style gas check HP mold intended for heavy duty 32magnum loads, 32-20s and the new 327 Federal. It should drop at 314" from the mold. From my Buckeye 32-20, using rifle primers and H110 I have driven a LBT style bullet at 1540 fps with excellent accuracy. This design should easily exceed 1400 fps with no strain on your revolver. It should weigh 140 grains in solid form and 135 grains in HP form.

We cant exect Miha to put a cost on this yet as this mold may be as much as a year out and we cant predict the cost of materials. We can otherwise expect it to be priced as usual. Mihas molds are a tremendous value at any price and are the best I have ever used. There are many molds ahead of us, so the sooner we get started here the sooner we will see our molds.

I will keep an eye on this thread and add the names to the list. Please disguise your email address and state how many molds you want.

I've had my eye on a new 327 blackhawk for awhile.

Can anybody tell me the crimp to nose measurement of this sledgehammer?

Am I going to need a taller front sight?

Also, has anyone has measured their blackhawk (bore and throat diameter, throat length).

I figure if I ask enough questions, I'll talk myself out of this one.

I'm getting confused at the mention of "flat pins" and "blank pins". Don't the hollow point pins that come with the mold already reverse to make flat point boolits? Blank pins would be as long as the hollow point pins, but not contoured on either end.

2 dogs
04-22-2011, 06:27 PM
Updated. 23.

frankenfab, yes you can reverse the HP pins to make flatpoints, but the protruding points catch on some of the casting pot mold guides. The flat pins make flat points but dont protrude outside the mold.

Ahhh, ok. Thanks for clarifying. You know, I have been thinking of ideas to make a better mold guide for the Lee 4-20. I will have to keep the pin protrusion problem in mind when I do so.

has anyone considered this on in a .303british for a plinking/small game round?

in PB it would seat well, BUT is it appropriate for the throat?

2 dogs
04-25-2011, 07:07 AM
This is a bit of a specialized bullet with a specific purpose. That doesnt mean it wouldnt have some other applications. Will it work in your 303? That depends on your 303s throat dimensions. There is no plain base option with this bullet at this time.

Ramslammer

I also reckon this would be a ripper in a .303. I intend to use it in a Marlin 32/20 and will have to severely trim cases for it to fit. But I hope to have a no5 soon so it'll certainly be going in that. The gas check will be needed I reckon.

sorry about my comment.

I guess I am just getting used to folks posting pics with All the diameters and lengths marked on the pic.

is this info all that Mihec has to go on to cut a cherry?

as my experience in this area is limited, I cannot look at a pic, have one dimension given and from that, deduce all the rest.

I can come pretty close, but that usually isn't good enough.

I guess I should trust that, with your experience, the design will work as intended.

To answer btroj's question It will if you trim back some cases. I seem to have a heap of 32/20 molds for my 1894cl but still want this one, because I reckon in the right cicumstances this'll make the 32/20 a reasonable killer on medium game (goats, Fallow deer). Note I say right cicumstances ie getting close!
I intend to trim some cases to fit and in fact I've been trying to source some nickel Remington cases so I don't mix them with full length ones.
Might be a bit of mucking about but I reckon it would be worth it.
Juddy

I guess I am just getting used to folks posting pics with All the diameters and lengths marked on the pic. The so called drawings you see do not have all the pertinent information on them. You can not see all that is there.

is this info all that Mihec has to go on to cut a cherry? He gets an AutoCad drawing that has complete information in it.

as my experience in this area is limited, I cannot look at a pic, have one dimension given and from that, deduce all the rest. Most of the major dimensions have been given...... all the minor really important dimensions and shapes, that you do not see, that allow better fit to the throat and allow better accuracy to occur when you do your part right.

Fermin - Someone just reopened the earlier thread in the "Group Buy Discussion" forum, with a response to Miha's July post, in which he had requested a final design. The result in that thread is definitely not this design (post #12 here) which everyone on this thread has chosen. I'm hoping Miha has the right design, but also wonder if that old thread should be closed to prevent confusion and disappointment.

Per Jeff Quinn, his measured 1.592 inches

Here is a link to the article

1.200" is the max case length. Trim .010" off to 1.190".

1.190" + .400" nose = 1.590"

these group buys have simply swamped the Makers on here.

this one started: 04-14-2011, 08:58 AM

Mihec got the drawings and was ordering a cherry: 08-22-2011, 05:02 AM

it is now: 11-04-2012, 01:12 AM CST and production hasn't even started. not even a word on whether the cherry was cut.....

19 months!

are the group buys too much of a good thing for these mould makers?

If Miiha really did quit his day job and go into mould making full time, I hope there is real profit in these for him, because 50 moulds at $100 each is only $5000 revenue and if the profit margin is 5% net, he'll be able to buy a few coffees and a tank of gas with the $250 cash left over....
