What's a fair value for an 1886 45-90 that has been rebarrelled and restocked? My wife is at an auction and I'm trying to give her a number to bid up to! Ha!

Well it went for way more than I can afford!!! The rifle went for $7500. I wish I could have seen it. Oh well, I'll just have to keep my eye out for another!

Your wife went to a gun auction? Does she have a sister?

Whew- 7500 for a rebuilt 86! 7500 is in the category or a pretty decent all original. That's too much. Wonder if the high bidder really knew what it was worth? Even the high end Turnbull's won't usually fetch that much. The only exception would be some pretty high level provenance of the original gun to someone important like TR would justify that $ for a rebuild.

some people go crazy when it comes to old Winchesters. Here's one that has not been rebuilt.

I noticed no bids on it yet.

Auction was in Madison, NE! It was an estate sale and my wife likes to go to auctions. I was at work and didn't get to see the rifle. If I had been there, I would have definitely seeked the buyer out and seen if I could sell him a couple of rifles too!

That GB 86 is about right if it has a 9 or better bore..... but, without looking at the bore....the things I see detracting are the stock which has may have been funkyfied a time or two and the extra holes drilled/tapped in the receiver for a sight. If the bore is not so hot, in addition to the two detractions, it seems a little high to me. But on the plus side it is a '91 gun which adds a little.

An original 86 in 45-90 sold at public auction a few months ago for 28000.00. I just set there with my mouth open!
