I finally got around to lee-menting and casting with the Fat 30. Boolits are 187ish from a hybrid mix or whatever went in the pot of previous rejects and what was already in there - almost 20 lbs -, along with some magnum shot, and water quenched. Sampling appears round at 315+ and 306+,and they're hard enough that a fingernail leaves barely a mark. The mould appears to be fairly uniform and casted well from the get-go. After lee-menting and carpenter pencil coloring the block tops and bottom sprue plate I also lightly smoke the cavities with stick matches. Casting session was quite enjoyable. Had the wood stove on rock'n'roll and a cold one handy for sips.

I'm planning on shooting some of these along with 314299 and 312-185-1r in .308 tomorrow after mil bolt match. Don't have them loaded yet, later. Possibly 41+/DP86.

What's been "all y'alls" (that's oklahomese for you'ns) results with this boolit? sundog

Wonderfull results in the 7.65 Argentine Mauser with 13.0 Red Dot. Haven't had a chance to go faster. Should work great in the 308 at simlar velocity, say 1500+.

Which Fat .30 are we talking about?

I've got a Fat .30 Tumble Lube group buy mould from 2-3 years ago that I've just started casting and shooting with. Plain base, with the mini-grooves meant for tumble lubing. Pushed the boolits too fast on the first try and didn't get good results. (But educational, with molten lead spray coating my bayonet!) Don't have any Red Dot, but I've got a pound of Scot Nitro 100, which is a little faster. I think I'll start in the 7.62x54R with a 1.0cc dipper, about 7 grains, and go from there.
