I am still new to casting . I'm having very good luck with 300 grain TL boolits in my 44 mag lever gun, using recluses 45-45-10 They are running at 1425 fps with no leading . My next mold is going to be a .475 to use in a 470 turnbull . velocity will be the right at 2000 fps . my question is , are you guys pushing boolits at 2000 fps with LLA. or am I headed for trouble . I don't want order a TL mold if it won't work at that velocity .

You won't know til you try it. It all depends on bbl condition, load, and boolit size. I've always had better luck with lube groove boolits and a good soft lube over any of the dip lubes except for low velocity plinking loads. Yes it will shoot, but is it the most accurate? Not in my experience.

I don't think there is a maximum velocity for 45:45:10. Bullet fit and alloy selection is more important than lube type. I tumble lube .223 loads with gas checked boolits that fly 2550 fps. My bullet fit is +.002 over groove to groove and my alloy is straight Lino for that velocity and pressure. With everything else up to the job, I never expected lube failure and it didn't fail. My bullet for the .223 is not a TL bullet design.

For your .44 Mag boolits at 2000 fps I recommend an alloy with a BHN 18-20 with a non gas checked bullet. I believe you would be happier with a gas checked bullet and I start to use gas checked bullets at 1800 fps and this has worked well for me. At 2000 fps I would definitely use gas checked boolits in the .44 mag. With the gas check you could use BHN 15 alloy that will expand nicely on game animals where the BHN 18-20 will not.

If you're looking for a "rule" or "guideline" of expected performance with a TL boolit you're really asking the wrong question, because it depends. The only generally true statement I can make about TL boolits and 45/45/10 is that such a combination usually reaches its accuracy and velocity ceiling before a traditional lube/groove system will in the same gun.

Thank you, forgot to mention my first mould is a GC design, so will the .477. I will start with the TL boolit and try to make it work, thats half the fun. I am trying not to buy a lubesizer if at all possible. I don't have room for another press, hell, I don't have room for what I have now. Thanks for the quick response's.

I have shot Ranch Dog's 359 TL bullet @ 1900-1950fps in my .357 Max T/C with no leading.

You can always pan lube TL boolits if you like.

Double that comment.
