About a year ago I purchased a used Euro Arms .577 1853 Enfield Musketoon. I did some competing with it last year and won a silver medal with it at 100 yards offhand. In December I took it out for the end of muzzleloading season and set up in a place where I had already shot a couple of deer. I heard alot of noise off a ways from where I was sitting so I went for a walk. I spotted two does running up a large hill away from me. One went over the top, the other stopped halfway up about 100 yards out and turned to look at me. I put the front sight right on her nose which took up most of her body from my perspective. The 475 grain Minie ball hit her in the neck cutting her windpipe and an artery. She dropped where she stood. She weighed about 115 pounds.

I have one made by Parker Hale and gave one just like it to my Son when He completed hunter safety class. It is my favorite ML rifle and it fires both minis and round ball with equal results out to 100 yards or more. It is one nice tack driver and as for power it will drop and elk with ease. I know because I have killed two of them with it firing 450 gr Mini balls.

I like the two band "Musketoon". I have a 1861 Colt that performs pretty much the same, only difference might be the longer barrel which many say they prefer.
When I bought the Colt, many years back, my thinking was "longer barrel, longer sight radius, a wee bit more velocity, and better accuracy"...well, that thinking no longer holds water for my hunting applications.
I have had the privilege of shooting and hunting with the same gun pictured, and there ain't no fleas on that dog!
That two band is handier, faster, and much better balanced than than the Colt. Don't get me wrong, the Colt is still a sweetheart, but the 53 Enfield could well be just a wee bit sweeter...they both like the 575213PH and at 565gr that thing should be suitable for about anything a fella would care to hunt.

Those are fantastic little rifles, no doubt about that. I have a US M1841 and shoot prb in it. It's in the original .54 caliber and is a great deer killer. Congratulations.

David, April is "buffalo gun" month in castpic of the month forum. I think your gun qualifies as having been an acceptable "buffalo gun". It's a pretty good looker so why don't you put it in. 10 ga

I am thinking about trading off for a Zouave as I ahve never played with a Civil War musket. You folks are making the trade more likely.

I have one of these too. Mine says Parker Hale on it, and Birmingham England on the barrel. I love it for muzzle loader season.

Given the choice between a M1A rifle or a nice Birmingham marked Parker Hale Musketoon or two-band I'd take the Parker Hale and not look back.

i bought an inline simply because it was cheaper. i didnt have much money and needed a muzzle loader for gun season.

troy mclure: It used to be the other way around. You could by a caplock cheeper than an in-line. Funny how things change. I don't like in-lines but you are headed in the right direction.
