had a brainstorm, and started wondering if anyone had tried using vibration to fill out their molds. there are theraputic vibrators that strap to the back of one's hand that would do the job nicely! any ideas? (just for the record, i'm not talking about any thing you'd have to go to the adult book store for!)

Lead sets pretty fast in a mold and shaking it will cause all kinds of set up troubles.

You'll never know if you don't try. If you have a mold that gives those problems, you could do some really good A-B comparisons. It would be nice to be able to vary the frequency and amplitude also, to see if that would have any effect.
Grainger sells a small metallic 120VAC buzzer that coupled with a vario-stat or dimmer module, should allow you to vary the amplitude over some arbitrary range, rest the mold on it as you pour. It wouldn't take that heating abuse forever, but should last long enough to give a hint as to whether it would work.
Alternate casts, with and without the vibrations, and after enough casts, if there is any difference, you'll see it.....Lee

I tried it once with the mold set on a small plate that vibrated. If it helped any I couldnt see where.

with proper venting and the alloy & mould at proper temp it should not be needed !
if your mould is not venting properly open the mould blocks , on the top inside edge of each half stone the edge to create a vent line or bevel . take it slow it doesent take much and try the mould if you need more take a few more strokes & try again until the mould works perfect.
I firt read about this modfication years ago from LBT book on bullet casting , i have done this to every mould that i owen around 30 +

HA! Post this idea in the Black Power area. Compressing BP is always an interesting topic and vibration has long been one of the options.
