My prayers for those that have left us for better things. My thoughts especially go to the American GI. My good friend Nels, who is on the VFW honor guard, says he does two or three funerals a week. God bless them all.

What I find sad is the fact that men doing the honor guard duty at services are mostly old WW2 vets...they're in their 80's and almost too feeble to heft an M1 for the salute. These guys are passing at an alarming rate.....probably dying faster than the wartime attrition rate. It won't be too many years in the future when we read of the last livng WW2 vet leaving the field. These men fought the last war the entire Nation believed in and supported and they hold a special place of honor. 99% of them feel they did nothing out of the ordinary. They served when called, came home and picked up where they left off. It's a rare day when you hear a WW2 vet complain or claim special status for their contribution to the war effort. They were poorly fed, poorly clothed, lived in hellish conditions in mud, filth, cold, rain, blazing heat and diseases. Besides that, some SOB was constantly trying to kill them. They left as boys and returned as hardened men who had killed to survive more than anything else. Yet, they took it in stride and didn't think much of it. The poor bastards who went to Korea suffered terribly and for what? That region is still an armed camp. Viet Nam is a scar on this Nation's history, befuddled with political BS that wasted America's youth at an alarming rate and all for nothing. The last few skirmishes bought oil with young men and women's blood. However, for those who serve, my hat is off to them all, one and the same. Whether we can justify the war or not, we owe a debt of gratitude to all those who answer the call to duty. There have been tyrants since history was first recorded and there shall be a Tyrant extant when the final curtain closes. We pray for those who muster a line of defense between us and the enemy and that they are able to stand against the challenge. God bless'em all.

Well said ,I will also express my thanks to all who served. As a veteran myself I am slightly aware of some of the trials and tribulations of the military,to those who served and those that left all on the field in the service of our country ...I thank you all.
