My uncle has a 1953 336SC in 35 Remington. The bore measures .363. What options do I have for cast boolits? I am thinking gas checks will be useless at that diameter. I could keep things slow and not use a gas check, but that would limit this to a target gun only.

Let my know if anyone has ideas we can try.

You are pretty much in 9.3 mm territory with that one. Trouble is that most molds in that caliber are a bit heavy for the .35 Remington. That is big for a .35. I had a 30-30 once that had a long area in the middle of the bore that was quite a bit oversized, and though the gun was old, Marlin replaced the barrel for me. Them was the good ole days though, and I doubt they would do that now.

check out BRP moulds. He has some that should work.

find them on this page! (http://www.brp.castpics.net/R1.html)

specifically the 365-180 GC uses .375 GC but they can be drawn down in a two step process. refer to the 9.3 threads about it.

You do mean .363 GROOVE right? If it's a .363 BORE I think you have a 38/55!

Yes, contact Bruce / BABore. He had one that was .364, so I know he can help you.

Yes, I have a similar Marlin and in fact IIRC it's the same year. Likely we even got had by the same rifling guy. My bbl is a 7-groove, Ballard cut rifled, with a 0.3635 groove and 0.350 bore. I have a few boolits that are 0.363 and bigger. Before you jump in "whole hog", you need to look at the inside diameter of a fired case neck. The question now is "will my chamber case neck diameter allow a boolit this big". If it doesn't, what will it allow?

Before I got off my lazy behind and slugged my bbl, I was shooting my 360-220 GC. I was shooting top end jacketed data with 1 1/2" 100 accuracy and zero leading. ***! The reason for my initial sucess was that the boolit fit the throat well and engraved in the bore. I was using a 50/50 WW-Pb alloy, water dropped. It was hard enough, but also malleable. Recovered boolits were bumping up well. Accuracy for me and a few other using this design were a bit above book jacketed data. Before you raise your eyebrows, look at maximum 30-30 data, pressure, and case head, then compare it to 35 Reminton data. There's room to wander outside the box and that's where accuracy was found. Just when I hit book max, accuracy was tightening. Just above max was where it peaked.

With the larger designs, I'm still shooting boolits just under or at groove dimensions because of chamber case neck diameter. Using the same 50/50 alloy I'm still getting about the same accuracy.

Try paper patching the standard 35Rem bullets.
