I was out foolin' with the Marlin 336 I have that's chambered in .44 magnum and was kinda surprised to see how many fit in the magazine . Call it a cowboy sport utility rifle if ya want , but it fit eleven in the magazine . What fun that is blasting the gong as fast as you can run the lever :-D

I was using the Lee two hundred grain "cowboy bullet with 6.9 grains of Bullseye and a large pistol primer from Winchester . All in a Remington .44 magnum case [smilie=1: Hmm I wonder how many "specials" will fit :Fire:

A friend gave me a sample of Lee 200 gr. CB, and it is sure a stubby little thing! Maybe that is why you could get 11 in the tube. I can only get 10 RCBS 240 GC or RCBS 250K in the tube. With the 250s I have to trim the cases .010" shorter than nominal "trim to" length to make them feed. P.S. my .44 is a Marlin 1894 Cowboy.

Perhaps it's because this 336 action is longer is why I've never had to trim cases further back that standard . I've seen the 1894 action and wonder just how much room it has to work with . I have a 1894c that sure is stubby enough , but neither one of them like SWC style bullets . Whatever I use has to have a rounded profile and flat front so it will feed reliably .
For hunting I have a couple LBT designs that I use for fooling around and feeding from the magazine the Lee is nice in the .44 magnum . For slow-motion shooting I like that it's easy to feed anything into them single shot .

I forget how many the longer barreled Winchesters are supposed to hold, but my 16" EMF M92 .44 Special holds ten in the mag, and my 16" Win M94 .44 Magnum holds nine Magnums and ten Specials if I remember right.

How many did those long barreled Henrys hold during the Civil War??

Started off as a 32/20 and has had the action opened up and a new barrel liner fitted 24". Action & lever have been color cased hardened by an expert gunsmith. The rifle feeds and functions perfectly with feed rails from another rifle used for parts.

Ah but of course ... the first round went into the chamber and another eleven went into the magazine :Fire: a dozen rounds can be made to move out rather quick for a rifle designed ..... when wuz thet ? [smilie=1:
