Lemme tell ya, if you ain't got one, get one! I just found out my 452 sizer is actually sizing closer to .4505 than .452 I found this out when I got home from the range after trying out my new Miha H&G 68 mold. The boolit shot great but I was getting some leading in the first 1"-1.5" of my barrel. I miced a boolit coming right out of the sizer and got the .4505 measurement, miced a pulled boolit and it was still .4505. I have no idea why I had not noticed this before, but ANYWAYYYYYYYY.

I was a little bummed to see a pretty good coating of lead in the lead of my barrel :???: and I was wondering how I was gonna get it out. WELLLLLLL, I went with the wife to Publix and we were on the dish cleaning isle when what do I see out of the corner of my eye?

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b327/Doby45/22397682.jpg

BAM, thats right A CHORE BOY!!!!!!!!!! Then I noticed they are even putting on the package now that it is PURE copper and lemme tell you what, IT IS.. I got that thing home and pulled a strand out of the puff about 3' long and then wrapped it around my .45 bore brush. 3-4 strokes and I am tellin ya, my barrel has never been so clean. So back to my opening statement..

If you ain't got one, get one!

I've heard about Chore boy for quite a while but I've looked all over the place and find none...grocery store, drug stores...none. I've heard it does wonders and here's another testimony. Reckon I'll have to go to "Georgie" to get some. You think they have it at Starvin' Marvins?:bigsmyl2:

No=one will carry that around here because the drug addicts use it as a screen for smoking crack.

I needed some more recently and struck out at all the hardware and grocery stores I checked. If they had anything like that it always the copper washed steel scrubbing pads.

The Walgreens drug stores are the only place locally I have found that stock the pure copper Chore Boy pads.

Maybe I should go clean out the local Publix grocery stores and become a "Vendor" of Chore Boys. BLAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Amazon it is-shame I can't find it locally. Not even the hardware stores have it like Lowe's or Home Depot.

I use 00 or 000 bronze wool. I can buy it at any hardware store or paint store - any place that sells refinishing supplies for furniture,

It is very good. I too wrap it around a worn out bronze brush. Don't use a good brush because you will NOT be aboe to remove it from the brush.

+1

Doby, if you think a Chore Boy works well, try bronze wool, especially the two-ought variety (I've tried both 00 and 0000). I still keep a few CB pads around, but for getting in the deepest corners of the lands where lead loves to hide the wool is best IMO. Another tip on the CB, take a pair of tin snips and cut the crimp where the pad is bunched together, then unfold it (it's convoluted several times) until you get a tube of the mesh, then cut it into 1" strips. Wrap a bronze brush twice with the strip and cut it off.

4/0 steel wool works, won't hurt your barrel.

I have a Shermin Williams paint store about 1.5 miles from my house. I will go and see if they have the bronze wool and have me some of that on hand too. I can also use the bronze wool to remove some very minor rust spots on my new to me S&W Model 49 snubbie.. WIN/WIN

If you really want some and can't find it locally, go to EBAY. They have tons of it.

Ebay-why didn't I think of that? I don't think I've ever thought of anything they didn't have. There's no grocery stores(at least close by), drug store, hardware stores in east TN that I've tried that had it. I did pick up an attractive facsimile of Chore boy at Walgreen's called ) "O Cedar" Copper Scrubbers which looks like the same thing and closest I could find. It indicates it's "pure copper, will not rust".

Test it with a magnet OR try to pull the strands apart with your hands. The pure copper strands will break rather easy, if it has a steel underbelly it will not break near as easily.

A local 99-cent store carries it.

Do they have genuine copper Chore Boy or do they have a copper plated steel Chinese imitation?

geargnasher

Dollar General has them, real copper ones.

I noticed Bret's 0000 steel wool recommendation went by ignored, as usual. It shouldn't be. He's very right and you all should at least try it. I prefer the non-ferrous stuff myself because it seem to grab lead better than steel, but that's my preference, y'all decide for yourselves, but know that the FINE steel wool works before you spend good money buying auction scrubbers and having them shipped.

Does using the chore boy require that you clean out the copper it leaves behind, or does it not leave enough to be concerned with??? Seems like it would leave a lot of copper in the barrel.

No, it patches right out. If you use a solvent with the CB, it prevents the sticking.

Be very careful as a lot of it is only copper plated steel. I would be worried about the FLEA-BAY stuff. If you buy a arm load you might end up on the watch list by the local Narcotics team.

LOL! I buy them by the case (on a pretty regular basis) since they also work very well on pots. If I'm on a DEA watch list, so be it.

I have been reading about this miracle stuff for quite some time and have looked in my local stores and finding none to the extent I was beginning to think it was a figment of my imagination or urban legend. I will now look at a close by Walgrens and online.

Apparently the O Cedar I found is the real deal. It's not magnetic and tears rather easily.

My local Walgreens had two boxes on the shelf this afternoon. They also had hotplates on sale for 9.99... One stop shopping for boolit casting, whoda thunk it?

There ya go brother. I am glad I found mine without even looking for it. $2 for a pack of Chore Boys was money well spent in my mind. I like to have lots of "tools" available so I will be looking for the bronze wool too. I THINK I have some of the uber fine steel wool in my garage already, I will have to look.

Tried the Big45 Frontier Metal Cleaner I ordered based on a thread last week, and it is even better that the CB. I got two paids delivered for around $10, which should last a LONG time. Tony

I was buying pure copper scrubbers at a local ''Dollar Tree Store'' last summer. Now all they stock is the copper coated steel pads. Take a magnet with you. I lalmost bought some pads that seemed nice and soft at a Family Dollary Store last fall. Fortunately they had a magnet at the counter on the back of a bottle opener or some such item. They were all magnetic copper coated steel so back they went on the shelf. Look around. Most sotres have some item that has a magnet on it you can check with if you forget to bring a magnet.

A local Thriftway Store stocks the O Cedar brand pure copper scrubbers, but they are up to #1.99 for a pack of two scrubbers.

The local Food City carries DOMESTIX (brand name is all caps) "100% copper scouring pads". They're made in Mexico, but the magnet confirms that they are 100% copper.

This is how to unravel the Chore Boy pad, just cut off enough to wrap around your brass brush.

I've never tried Chore Boy pads.
Never heard of it be for reading about it here.
I've been using a stainless scrub pad the same way.
It's a round pad that looks like curly shavings all wound together.
Best thing I've found to remove lead fouling.
Anyone know if Chore Boy is better than the stainless pad????

That stainless might be a bit hard on your barrel hence copper instead!
