Hi Just got my hands on a Lyman #225646 bullet mold, and I'm going to cast some boolits for shooting down at my local range.

Rule at the club is maximum muzzle velocity should be 1750 fps as it's an indoor range

The rifle I'm using is a Steyr Scout .223 which has a 1-9 twist barrel. The questions are

What powder charge should I use? Have some Bullseye powder that I hope will suffice? Obviously keeping things within the club rules!

And at what point would gas checks be neccessary?

Thanks Dougie :castmine:

Work up from 3 to 4.5 gr Bullseye in .3 gr increments with 10 shot groups looking for best accuracy at 100 yards if you can but if not then at the max range allowable on the indoor range. At 4.5 gr you will still be under the 1750 fps restriction. GCs will be probably be necessary for any decent accuracy above 1200 fps beyond 50 feet. If it is a 50 foot or 25 yard indoor range then try 2 gr bullseye under a lightly lube bullet sans the GC. Make sure all bullets fired go down range and do not stick in the barrel if you load down to that level.
