Hello.
A friend of mine owns a 204 ruger the other day he used a factory load winchester load in it and the shell didnt have and powder in it so when he fired it the projectile got stuck down the barrel so he then had to get a bit of stiff wire and put it down the barrel to knock the projectile out.

since he did this he has fired reloaded ammo in it and it is key holing now. He has used the same reloaded ammo in it before he used the factory load and it was shooting fine.

He uses 28grains of ADR 2206h powder with 40gr Vmax projectile,s.

Can anyone please shed some lite on this Key holing issue.

Thanks Wayne.

How far up the barrel was the bullet stuck? Did you check the rifling? If the bullet was driven into the rifling by the primer alone it could not have gotten too badlly wedged into the rifling. Sounds like using the "stiff wire" may have damaged the rifling.

NOTHING goes down a bore unless the bore is protected from it. That gun should have been taken home and proper tools used or taken to a smith.

Check the crown for damage.

204s are similar to 17 Rems in that if you look at their bore's crooked they will shart shooting wild. Very, very touchy. Have your bud take it to a gunsmith who has a bore scope. And warn him to be prepared for a new barrel. However, there is an off chance that the bore is badly copper fouled and the wild shooting simply coincided with the stuck bullet removal project.
