Hi

How do we all feel about the Lee hardness tester then?

I am considering one as an addition to my loading bench.

I like mine...I taped a small 1 aaa cell maglite the microscope...that really helped....I use mine in one of those cheap/cheesy little lee handpresses...works well for me...alot better than doing the math methods...

The Lee hardness testers are a great product for the price. Its a little odd getting used to it as you look through the microscope all movemnts are backwards. Doesnt take to long to get used to. I also use a small light with mine .:castmine:

I am considering ordering me one on my next Midway order. I was at the plumbing supply house yesterday and a fellow plumber gave me about 40 pounds of pure lead ingots.
Looks like it may be time to start alloying my own casting lead and I believe I will need a hardness tester for this.

Theyre great

I blend my own lead and am confident in what I get since I got the little hardness tester, and the no math part is cool for us knuckledragging types

I think it is a poor substitute for Gussy's [castingstuff.com?] but it is better than a fingernail. Gianni.

About a fifth of the way down from the top on this page...

...is a short article on a comparison of the various testers.

I just got my Lee hardness tester today from my Midway order. I tested a few 200gr LSWC I casted from a mix of lead and wheel weights quinched in water.
I got a reading of 19.3 on the Brinnell scale.
I appreciate the tip on the flashlight that really helped. I imagine the hardness tester is not a perfect exact test when measuring on the scale but I feel it is really close.
