Anybody used this boolit in a Sharps? I have a Pedersoli 45-70 that slugs .457 I'm only going to shoot smokeless trapdoor loads in it. Might get a Marlin 45-70 CB someday.
Thanks

I have that mold and the only problem I've had with it is that it drops at .457. Once I beagled the mold to get to .459-.460 things went fine. I've fired it in an Uberti 1885 as well as a Marlin 45-70CB with decent results at moderate velocities.

Where do I look to fine out what "beagled" means? Thanks for the reply looking for advice on a good Sharps boolit @ Trapdoor FPS

161, try this link: http://www.castpics.net/subsite2/MoldMods/Bullet%20diameter%20enlargement%20(Beagling).pdf
It should tell you all you need to know about beagling. Good luck.

Good read. Thank you. I have never cast HB before other than 12 Lee slugs. Is there anything I should know? Or should I just get the Lee 500 gr. pointed 3r and can I TL those?
Thanks again

what ever you buy from Lee, you stand a decent chance of it dropping boolits on the small side. i do not know why they insist on doing that. i have written them several times. they would sell a lot more sizing dies if the boolits were a little large, and you could custom tune them for your bore size. of the 8 or 9 lee molds i have all but one has been beagled.

I had two Lee 500-3R moulds, the only one I cast with dropped wheel weight alloy at .457", even less if it was too hot. It's the only Lee mould I have ever seen drop under it's advertised sized with my WW alloy.

I have the 457-400, drops .457" as does the 457-340, the 457-450 drops .458" for me.
