I have a vest pocket derringer 30 cal. I needs some suggestions for powder type and loads, please. Shooting it with only caps is BORING!

Rule of thumb is one grain per caliber, in a derrringer I would say 10 Gr. is enough.
FFFG powder.

Greetings
Speer #10 suggests 8-12 grains 3F on a .31 caliber revolver.
So I would ere to the light side and start with 7 grains.
I would also get a .28 or .285 RB and use a spit patch. Do not go for a real tight fit but a snug one. Try shooting at 10 feet onto paper. Then when you have things regulated swith to a corn can filled with colored water.

1 grain per caliber? = 30 grain? FFPG powder?

FFFG powder.

One grain per rifle caliber and 1/2 per pistol. I agree though 10 grains should be good.

If its the brass swivel barrel Traditions model with the white grips then the max load is 10gr. I had to email traditions for a manual but I can look for it an post it if this the correct model. I never had much luck with mine so its pretty much a display piece now. The build quality is too low so my barrel was out of round so I was only able to use it with a .289 patched round ball.

One grain per caliber was never a rule of thumb. Ned Roberts suggested 3 grains of powder for 7 grains of ball. Good hunting loads were often 1/2 the weight of the ball. That would make a 30 cal at about 20 grains or so but for a Deringer one might want to cut back.

Is this a real antique?
Made of what metal?
Be careful.

Wilsknife, you should post a picture... The gun can be identified as to what you have.
