Most times the memories come and go without incident. The hardest memory is the first trigger pull in the field. I wretched and vomited and then got shot at for giving up my position, I was kid 20 years old. I had to pull the trigger more. It was never easy because it is so personal and can be very haunting. Old snipers are very similar, calm, methodical and emotionally internal. Five missions along a supply trail, 1970.

I still love a fine shooting rifle but there has been a difference in them since then.

What branch were you in?

Chris, 1970 along a supply trail would almost certainly be the Ho Chi Minh trail, probably Cambodia - thus US Army Special forces or the Company.

That is a special round because it was my last live round left on a mission. I didn't have to use it and made it out.

onondaga. I hope you are ok. Those events long ago will just stay with a guy. For many years I was really bothered with the past but that's over now. I have never seen a movie about Viet-Nam like Platoon and such. Just don't want to do that. Now, WWII I can watch a boat load. Take care and thanks for keeping the rest of us safer by slowing down supplies.

onondaga and all

“Words are what men live by, words they say and mean.” -John Wayne

Some have paid the ultimante price for the oath they keep but all have paid a price.

I pray this will help

To everything there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones,
and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
a time of war, and a time of peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
