I'm new to cast boolit reloading (have reloaded jacketed 30+ years). What I have to start with; for my 444 Marlin is:

IMR 3031, 4064, 4320, 4350, & 4895
Beartooth 290gr LFNGC @ .432"

I know I'll eventually have to get H-4198, 322, & 335; plus V120 & 130 for reloading JFP's. Within the five IMR powders listed above have you guys got any receipes? (I have guidance of 43-50gr of 3031 to start with a recommendation of the 47gr load). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated & thanks in advance.

3031 is very accurate but a little slow. 4198 is most likely the best for velocity. 335 will blow your ears off. Anything slower then 3031 would most likely be too slow. I would say all of the powders you listed are too slow except 3031 down.

Either 4198 is OK, there is only a small difference between them.

I have done a limited ammount of shooting in my 444 with the 265gr Ranch Dog, and the 280gr group buy Beartooth knockoff. I'm partial to AAC2520 which is just about a ball version of 4895. I don't know if you can get enough of the 4895 in the case to get the velocity you want, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

"...............335 will blow your ears off. "

............Ha! I had just finished up a 444 Marlin on a Martini action and had some 265gr Hornadys loaded over H335. At each shot there would be dust and old paint chips, maybe a cobweb here and there drifting down from the overhead.

I happened to notice Kenny the rangemaster standing off to my left so I turned and looked at him, lifting one earmuff. All he said was, "Ball Powder?"

I nodded yes and he said, "Thought so" and then turned and walked away :bigsmyl2:
