question about 300 whisper

What I know about the 300 Whisper wouldn't fill a thimble, so please excuse my ignorance on this caliber. Does any firearms mfgr. make a "stock" rifle in this caliber?

A potential client has asked me to gather some info for him as he is interested in it.

I have found some info on ammo, but nothing on rifles mfgr'd. in this caliber.

Basically the 300 whisper is proprietry of JD Jones of SSK - it was licenced by Thompson Center - other's made rifles with slightly different versions of it known as 300 Fireball - 300 / 221 etc. to avoid paying JD the licencing fee. Only SSK and Cobon made ammo under the licenced 300 Whisper name (which was on reformed 223 cases).

Basically it's just a 221 fireball openned up to 30 caliber. Designed to operate as a subsonic quiet round with suppressor with heavy 220-250 grn bullets or supersonically with lighter 110-150 bullets (7.62x39 or 30-30 performance). This was developed by contract for .GOV as for use in AR platform as the snatch and grab guys wanted quiet but effective raider gun in Vietnam and didn't have much to choose from.

Basically the 300 Blackout or 300 BLK as made by Remington is the same cartridge - (ie any 300 whisper will work in 300 BLK) - http://300aacblackout.com/ - This cartridge has the backing of Cerberus aka Remington and AAC a suppressor maker owned by Cerberus.
Factory ammo is offered by Remington.

Factory rifles in 300 BLK are being offerer by Remington and Bushmaster also owned by Cerberus as well as Wilson combat and there are other makers offering AR's in the chambering (no license fee like SSK charges!) - do search on 300 whisper and you'll find a group buy for boolit

82nd is offering uppers for the 300blk here in the vendors section.
i'm wavering on having him do me a 358 upper.

JD at SSK is very helpful. If you call there you will probably speak directly with him. If your client is looking to go supressed SSK & JD are the people to talk to.

Employees of the National Park Service use the 300 Whisper in supressed AR's to control the wild hog population in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This combination of low velocity bullet and a really efficient supressor works well to conceal the shooter's location. Usually when the first hog is hit it will go into a frenzy, and the remainder of the pack commonly will turn on it as if it was the problem.

I think of my 300 whisper as a high capacity semi auto 30-30, great for close range hunting.

And I was justifying my purchase of a 300BLK upper from 82airborne as developing a modern 30 caliber carbine.

A 30 Carbine on steroids is what I was going to describe mine as if people asked.

Love the Gov't Hunter in Phoenix, who shoots the Varmint's inside the City of Phoenix. He hunts Coyote's on the Resort Golf Courses. Uses a golf bag to holster. I think the gunsmith told me this was the 3rd 22-250 barrel they have put on his suppressed rifle.
