Boolit to bore size

Have yet to cast, but I have some of the equipment lined up and will most likely have a go at it later in the year. I have loaded cast boolits for a few rifles and got some boolit/load combinations that work very well.

My question has to do with mold selection. I opted in on a buy recently, and am lined up for a NOE 316299. I noticed the nose diameter was spec'd at .305". I have rifles that slug from .300 - .304 on the lands, and .310 - .315 on the grooves. So I'm guessing that I want the nose to engage some of the rifling in order to get good accuracy. I plan to size down a few thousandths for some of the smaller groove diameters, I realize too that this will most likely take some trial and error in to get the results I want. Just wondering what some others have to say on this.

For what guns? It is probably really good for .303 Brit or 7.62x54R in a Mosin.
For a .30-06, that boolit is pretty fat. You will want more like a .300-.301 nose
and .310-.311 body.

Ultimately, you will need to slug the particular gun. Nose about .000 or +.001 on
lands and body about +.002 to .003 on the grooves.

I've already slugged a number of rifles. I use an egg sinker. I'll be using this boolit mold for some of the larger bores, for grooves between .313 - .315, and lands running .302 - .303. Should be OK...

i have a 314299 that goes 313+ on the body and 304 on the nose it is too big in the nose for a rregular 30 cal but is excellent in the argie and jap rifles i haven't tried it in the 303's just yet.
the larger nose you have might be better in the jap.
but the nose/ body is as you said, a wait and see how it shoots in each rifle.

Although I hadn't mentioned it, I plan on using this with 91/30's which have grooves running.3135 - .315, some well seasoned M39's which run .3135 - .315, an 1891 which is basically new, so I'm guessing it would slug .313, and then assorted enfields, a P14, some #1 MkIII's and the odd #4's... Have run .311's in my '.30' cals which works good. Tough to find a larger boolit that can be purchased, hence the .316299.

I have an Arisaka 99 that shoots .311 jacketed bullets very accurately. I don't shoot it all that often, but I think it's first owner didn't get much use out of it before the second owner happened along... I doubt the second owner ever shot it.
