I've tried this and could not get any accuracy, patterns not groups.
Maybe you'll have better luck.
IMR 3031 - 45-51 grains
IMR 4895 - 47-53 grains
IMR 4350 - 55-60 grains
H4831 - 54-61 grains
All loads exceed 4000fps per the load guide.
45 - 80 grains projectles, of course the heaviest loads are for the lightest projectiles.
I've considered ,but have never tried, the "universal" 16 grain 2400 load and the 13 grain Red Dot load to see if any accuracy was to be had.
Good luck,

Mike

I did that trick as well
I don't want to say not to try but
don't expect very good accuracy
mine were all over the board
used them in 30-30 and 300 savage both short action propositions
I will leave you with this .............
why is it golfers have so many clubs?????

Weigh the sabot and the projectile (payload) then do some research in the load manuals.

I have never worked with sabots but have always been interested in trying.

It has always been puzzling why the manufacturers don't produce a 6mm/30 cal sabot as I think the accuracy issues with .22 cal in a .30 might be lessened or disappear.

I like Smoke em's idea on 2400 or Red dot.

I tried 55 gr. in with a sabot in a .308 and got keyholing. I was pushing it to about 3900 though. Maybe in slower loads it might be more stable. I've been thinking about trying them in a .30 carbine. I might have feeding problems though.

With close to start loads
I could get so so groups in my 308
As the loads increased , so did my groups

I also played around with the sabots in the 7.62x39
Shooting the loads in the Mini Mauser
Those loads were closer to usable , with the best running around 4" at 100

I have been watching this and it seem that no one has had good results with boolits in the 30 cal sabot.
My experiance was just the opposite I got very good results. I was able to get consistent 1.5moa with boolits in the 55 gn range at 4100 fps from the 30/06.
This was not just one rifle but we got good results from three rifles with the same load.
I dont have the load handy but could dig it out if needed.
We were able to get up to 4300 fps but best accuracy was at 4100.
A couple things we discovered that seemed important to good accuracy were to use a boolit design that had enough bearing surface before the ogive the the length of the sabot was fully supported. Another was that boolits and bullets very much longer than the sabot didnt work good.
Another very important this was to have the boolit perfectly square with and seated firmly to the bottom of the sabot. To achieve this we found that you first had to size the boolit to .224" to fit the inside diameter of the sabot. The to get a perfect uniform seat we used an RCBS LAM with a .308" die in place and with the depth setting set deep enough that the entire sabot is supported and using a custom nose punch for a perfect fit to the boolit nose seat the boolit in the sabot until you feel it bump bottom in the die and depth setting. That was hard to say but easy to do.
Another thing we found was that the data supplied with the sabots was lawyer approved and worthless. We didnt get good performance until we started to get to the fast rifle powders of rates that were not even listed with the supplied data.

I am not an inerior ballistician, but I'd expect the most serious challenges are:
1. Getting the projectile (bullet/boolit) centered in the bore
2. Getting the projectile's centerline parallel to the bore

What Bullshop says sounds like the best approach possible with typical home-grade tools. Getting the projectile into the sabot correctly seems really important to me. Having the sabot support as much of the bullet as possible would help keep it from ****ing off-axis. If it's tilted, it starts yawing at the muzzle. If it's off-center, same-same, right?

Abrams and Bradley sabots just grab the penetrator around the middle, but those sabots are stiffer materials (aluminum for 120mm and I think nylon for 25mm)

I have shot some of the factory stuff in my 30-30 winchester and they shot good.
That said tried some with home grown bullets and have not had any luck yet.
They were tried in a 30-30,308 and 30-06.I just got my 300 savage back from my brother and will try to work up some in it as well.
Good Luck

I will have to try BullShops ideas
As it would be nice to get groups like his

I didnt mention it in my previous post that we found it interesting that our best accuracy with the 30/06 was at 4100 fps and when we chronographed some factory stuff we got right at 4100 fps also.
